I've spent a couple of weeks playin with media portal and love it. But I have an interesting glitch.
I set it up mainly to copy all the stuff my kids have recorded on Sky + to MP4.
First i started with excellent freeview watching, and very poor s-video quality after much messing around, and learning i realised the bad quality was caused by the video needing to be de-interlaced. I can do this when i encode the .ts recorded file to mp4.
However when I come to watch the s-video feed through Media portal, i have to set the de interlace option on the direct show filter settings for the mpeg decoder. This is fine it give a very acceptable quality, but when i then switch to trying to watch a Freeview (digital) TV show, the tv show is now really poor quality, and i need to turn the De-interlace off on the mpeg decoder options.
I have spent hours playing with this, and have had now got a config that will give me the quality I want, but i have to keep switching configs about, which means that it ceases to be wife and child friendly. I realise I could just set the TV options to give the best results on Freeview (digital), and then de interlace the recording on the s-video channel, but i would like ot have it playng the right quality all through the system.
I've had a quick google and can't understand why the settings need to be switched as apparently all over the air broadcasts are supposed to be interlaced in the uk. so settng the de interlace filter option should provide the same quality regardless, unless, and i have not found anything to this effect but the results i have witnessed do tend to back this up, the freeview signal in the UK is already deinterlaced, and the sky + HD s-video is interlaced.
so to summarise I appear to have a de-interlaced (progressive id that the right term) over the air digital tv signal, and a interlaced s-video output from sky + HD, and would like to use both without switching settings, on a hybrid card.
No idea if this is possible, but would appreciate some feedback either way,
