Description
I'm experiencing sound stutters/dropouts on a regular basis (maybe every 5-10 minutes) with 1.4. I don't recall having this problem before, although I was using various patches with previous versions, which as far as I know have been incorporated into 1.4.
I can't be sure but it does seem to be more of an issue with certain channels, i.e. ch.4, more4, e4, which I are probably all on the same mux.
I was watching various programmes tonight on E4, How I met your Mother, Big Bang Theory and New Girl (the last of which was recording as well) between 19:30 and 21:30 and noticed it.
I get this watching back recordings as well, not just LiveTV but obviously if it's affecting LiveTV this will also affect recordings.

Steps to Reproduce:
Watch TV or Recordings

The issue seems to be server side, probably from the tuner itself. Refer to the TsWriter log:
    09-07-2013 20:15:29.346 Recorder:pid 23b : Discontinuity header bit set!
    09-07-2013 20:16:16.290 Recorder:pid 23c : Discontinuity header bit set!

    09-07-2013 20:18:41.243 Recorder:pid 23c : Discontinuity header bit set!
    09-07-2013 20:19:22.655 Recorder:pid 23c : Discontinuity header bit set!
    09-07-2013 20:19:45.649 Recorder:pid 23c : Discontinuity header bit set!

You may be able to reduce the "visibility" of the problem using the TsReader "don't drop discontinued packets" option:

FYI (heads up) - your TV server TVService log is huuuge! 96 MB. Might want to clear that out and see if it makes any difference.
@Developers the log shouldn't get that big should it?

It's a combination of TV server log level being stuck at 'debug' level (which I think was/is being fixed) and PS++ adding 25 lines every 15 seconds....(I have mentioned this to michael_t already - it makes the log hard to read IMHO)

But I thought with log4net it should be configured to roll over regardless of the log level.

    Agree wholeheartedly. :)

I don't know what the intention was, but it appears to be keeping the last 5 log files. The rollover only happens on service startup e.g. my current TVService.log has been running since 20th June (last time I rebooted the HTPC).

I think the logs (before the log4net switch) used to rollover at midnight, but the old logs were never discarded so people complained about the log folder filling up....I think what it needs is daily rotation + keeping the last 5 (that's plenty for post-mortem debugging, IMHO)

    Fully agreed again. :)
Somehow I had the impression that was how it had already been configured... so if it is not like that I think we should propose to make it like that.

Thanks. I recall using that option in the past so I'll try it and see if it does the trick. I notice the Wiki also refers to the codec maybe making a difference. I used to use ffdshow for audio but now have LAV set, so I could try changing back to ffdshow if it still happens.

Sorry about the log, didn't notice how big it had got. At least it sparked some debate about changing things to stop this happening ;)
