ION and 1080i (1 Viewer)

Where do ION users stand with 1080i material?

From what I have read its not possible and not going to be possible for ION users to De-interlace 1080i.
Do anyone have a "fix" or "workaround" for this? In this thread robyf suggests running your TV at 720p to get around the issue, has anyone tried this? How will that affect 1080p material?
I will try and test this later tonight.

Does anyone know if its going to be possible for ION2 to do 1080i?

Any info would be much appreciated.

I use an ION and BBC HD (and true 1080i) is fine with most codecs on a 720p resolution (CoreAVC or the MS codecs are my preference).

My TV's native resolution is 1368x768 which means it is not an issue for me (50Hz is not supported at this resolution so it is a no go). Give it a try - you may be pleasantly surprised .

Guys I want to be able to output 1080i without any deinterlacing when I'm watching live HD tv. Does anyone know how to do this? Switching to 720p for everything isn't a reasonable option as I want to enjoy full 1080p on my plasma the rest of the time.

I agree, switching to 720p is ok temporarily but not a permanent solution.

So is it possible to change the resolution within MediaPortal without restarting? It would be really neat to have a custom script that changes resolution dependent on input resolution. IE. 720p in > 1080p out. 1080i in > 1080i out or 1080i in > 720p out.

Surely it can be done along with the automatic refreshrate changer?

As it stands I have given up watching live HD tv because the ION chipset simply cannot render past 30-40fps when deinterlacing 1080i. Which causes a huge framedrop. If I had been aware of this when i was buying into my ITX machine I would have thought twice.

I think it may be easier to make everything 1080p but entering TV the resolution changes to 720p, when the TV exists it will revert back to 1080p.

I have no idea where to start with this tho.

You can change refresh rates (and resolutions by using the script option) using the "dynamic refresh rate" under General in configuration. There is a link to a wiki page in the configuration settings which exlpain how to do it for Ati and Nvidia cards. The Actions can be attached to script files which can provide the functions you want. It isn't as fine a level of control as you are asking for but it's close.
