Input Service dies mysteriously...

Hi,

I have installed IR Server Suite 1.0.4.1 (clean install) on Vista Ultimate. I use it with MCE remote. It works just fine, except it just dies quite often. I have set "automatically restart service" as a workaround, but I hope you can figure out what is wrong.

Log files are attached. I zipped the logs immediately after the service was started again. If you need anything else (config files), let me know.

Sounds like the card ID's are being shuffled around. You might need to redo your STB Setup in the TV2 Blaster Plug-in whenever you add or remove a TV Card. Try that and see what happens, let me know.

I can recreate the problem with a single card installed. The TV2 Blaster will work if the channels are not assigned to the card. If I assign them to the card then it no longer works. I've attached screen shots to show what I'm chaning in MP plus the STB Setup screen for the plug-in. I hope this helps.

The first image is when the channels are assigned and the TV2 Blaster does not work. The second is when I unassign the channels and it works. The third is how I have the plug-in configured for my STB.

ok, it looks like the card index is wrong at some stage of the process...

Another one of those little quirks of MediaPortal ... It looks like I'm going to have to do some trial & error...

I'll let you know how I go.

I think i have the same problem as trx, i have 2 tuners however (digital and analog) and i haven't tried unassigning it, but i will try it and let you know.

also, if i install the IR Server suite do i also need to install the MCE replacement plugin for MP? I wasn't sure so i did and then i had a strange problem where each button press resulted in 2 being sent to MP.

No, MCE Replacement Plugin is replaced in IR Server Suite by the MP Control Plugin, and some aspects are replaced by the TV2 & TV3 Blaster Plugins.

Do not run the MCE Replacement Plugin and IR Server Suite at the same time.

I'm trying to get some money together to set up a testing PC from second hand parts, but I'm very light on for cash at the moment. Hopefully with a PC for testing/developing I can make sure both the TV2 & TV3 Blaster plugins work 100% without destroying my deployed HTPC setup, which is working 100% and I don't like to mess with it .

The reason I ask is that I will soon have a fairly decent PC available. If you have a case I can ship relatively cheaply to you. If I dont ship the PS and case I could get it to you. Where in Australia are you located? My brother lives in Brisbane.

That's right I'm in Victoria which is in the south-east of the country, I'm in an outer-metropolitan suburb of Melbourne.

What is your Operating System? XP Home, XP Pro, XP MCE, Vista ?
What software are you using? Input Service, MP Plugins, Translator, Tray Launcher?
What steps have you gone through to try and make it work?

I just need a little more information to help you.

I have a (legal) Win XP Home
Last night the remote operated everything but the "start" bottom… but unfortunately now it controls nothing…
I do not really remember what I did… so I will have to install it from the beginning…
Do you have a link to good summarized guide ?
Since I got lost through the 10 pages of this one…

hehe ... 10 pages is nothing, you should see the old thread

Try uninstalling IR Server Suite and re-installing the driver for the MCE remote (Just delete the remote from Device Manager and it will re-detect it on the next reboot).

Once you've done that try re-installing IR Server Suite. If that doesn't help then send me all the logs it creates and I'll see what I can find.
