OK, think I have sorted this!

As I mentioned at the start, I recently upgraded my amp. I also upgraded my graphics card at the same time (to a Zotac GT430, replacing a GT8600)
When I installed the card, because I already had the Nvidia drivers, it just detected the card. I set up the audio device to be my new Onkyo amp over HDMI, sound came out of the speakers and everything worked as I expected.....or so I thought!
It wasnt until I tried to play some lossless audio and it didn't output anything that my error was obvious - I hadnt loaded the HD audio driver. I have now installed this and I get full lossless audio (lovely little red light on my amp!) and AVRAG works!!

Thanks for all your help guys

A friend of mine has the same problem with the digital receiver/amplifier from Teufel. It's annoying and deactivating all Windows sounds is a little bit of a poor "solution" ;). What would be needed here is a background program (or MePo plugin) that constantly plays an audio signal with zero amplitude.

I just got a Teufel DecoderStation 7 and I have the same issue. I'll try out AVR audio guard.

@MarcD2K12 AVR Audio Guard seems to work well enough out of the box. Just tested it with Windows sounds when selecting a folder in explorer and it does the trick.

I read on your website you had that issue with the exact same GTX560 I have.
Did you ever get the HDMI audio to work properly on that card? For me the channels are mixed up so I had to use optical audio instead which has this "Silent Stream Bug".

i didn't have any issues with hdmi audio on the 560 (aside from the silent stream bug) the channels were fine, i had it set to 7.1. The card died though so now i am running with SLI 660's which also work fine with HDMI audio.

For the record that Teufel DecoderStation 7 has a pretty bad "Silent Stream Bug" and needs AVR Audio Guard.
The SONOS PLAYBAR surround system however does not have such a "Silent Stream Bug".
