    DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM

Installation of IRSS 1.4.2.3197 works fine (Installed as service)
    After installing configuration doesn't load.
When I click start -> All programs -> IRSS - > Configuration; the configuration program loads
It correctly detects that I have MCE COmpatible blaster & Receiver.
If I click ok, to save any changes, it attempts to restart IRSS, but then it crashes.

EDIT: I tried also complete uninstall and reinstalled as IRSS as an application.

If I install as application I don't get the error when i save configuration and it still detects that i have MCE compatible receiver/transmitter, however after the configuration utility restarts my remote stops working.

    More in depth description

RED LED on receiver flashes when i press button on remote.
Debug client connects to local host and detects MCE remote
Pressing buttons on receiver makes RED LED Light flash, but debug client doesn't detect anything.
    Close debug client
    Run IRSS Configuration
    Click ok/save to restart
    IRSS Configuration restarts
Now when I press button on the remote the RED LED light no longer flashes
If I unplug + replug the receiver, it starts to work again.

    ..

It seems when ever IRSS starts it breaks the MCE Compatible receiver.

    ..

If I look at the log files I get same errors as when i install as a service (see above)

    EDIT

I should also add, that without installing IRSS my remote works fine using the inbuilt mediaportal support for MCE compatible remote control. The reason I want to install IRSS is because I want to remap the volume +/- buttons to blast my audio receiver.

Are you using the latest MediaPortal SVN? Otherwise you have to use the older version of IRSS..

Your error reminds me of a question being asked during IRSS installation.... There is a question that asks if you want to install IRSS as a "service" or as a "start-up" application. Perhaps with your remote IRSS must be installed as a "start-up" application and not a "service"... Its worth a try :D

i posted examples for installation as app and service. service causes crash, app doesn't cause crash, both have errors in log, both don't work properly.

    hi,

i am using the excact same receiver with xp sp3 and mp 1.1 rc2 and have the same error ( configuration.exe crashing with the directinput error, ... ).
i switchted from win7 to xp yesterday because of some dxva issues under win7.
irss worked perfect on win 7 with the same hardware.

the remote works under xp, but only every fifth (average) keystroke is recognized by irss.
with mp internal mce mode every keystroke is recognized.
since i want to launch some external programs with the translator i need irss.
currently i am running internal mce mode + irss translator at the same time, but it's still annoying :)

so after configuration i get the same error kiwijunglist gets ( not working, no red light, ... ) and i have to reboot windows to get the irss server started.
tried 5 different 1.4.2.x version but always the same behavior.

have you solved the problem kiwijunglist ?

well i have installed irss without any mediaportal plugins. i am only using the irss debug client.
i have no mp-tv-server or blaster-plugin installed on this machine.

the irss configuration.exe is crashing, not the mediaportal configuration.
my main problem is, that most of the ir-commands are not recognized/dropped.

    i will provide a log-file later.
