I have searched but didn't find help for this topic:
In the past, it was possible to autoswitch to the corresponding inputchannel of a tv by using a scart-cable that supported this.
Is there any similar possibility when using a hdmi-connection between the htpc and the tv - so that the tv automatically switches to the corresponding hdmi input if a signal comes via the hdmi cable (and back to the former channel of the htpc is powered doen)?

I am using a samsung 6-series tv and have connected a htpc via hdmi cable. Currently I have to set the input manually via the remote.

Appreciate any help for a solution!

    thanks and regards,

    Guzzi

    Hi Guzzi,

i think it depends only on your TV, maybe this is the wrong Forum, cause you have to wait till some one with the same TV answer.

I would try to find a TV Forum with Samsung user :)

Already checked some forums focused on TVs - no findings so far. Was just hoping, someone else with a htpc discovered more than I did so far ...

Dont wait for it in case you want to use a htpc. I´d suggest a good programmable remote like a logitech harmony.
Changes all inputs as i need them.

    Could try that.

I already was searching for more info about the CEC protocol (which is supported by samsung TVs) - but hard to find something useful ... any hints here also appreciated.

Not sure, if this would work - the problem is, that I have to step through the inputs - so it's diffent number of keypresses depending on current input/channel.
Would alredy be happy if I could select the htpc-input via one single keypress ...

The logitech harmony supports sequnces, means you can programm a sequence and the harmony work off each single command. The TV's have often more commands that the remote support, so my TV have a direct comand to switch to the PC-Input but on the remote there isn't such a key, but the logitech harmony support this command.

But beware to prgramm the harmony its sometime tricky ;)

The problem in your case (and mine, have a Samsung too) is that there are not a DirectInput button, to switch directly to the desired input. A macro or sequence from the remote wouldn't help, since it would have to assume that you are always on input1 and to get to input3 you have to switch input twice. If you were on input2 when you pressed the macro, the tv would switch to input4.
I have not found a solution. I searched the web, and found a page on remotecentral.com (i think its called) that listed a lot of codes for different TV's - but I had no idea which was the right code or how to input this into a remote.

My solution (for now) is that I try to always switch to the HTPC-input whenever I turn of my TV.

I'am using a Logitech Harmony to control the input channels of my Samsung TV. On the original Samsung remote exists a "TV" and a "Next" button, so I'am starting every channel switch sequence with the "TV" button and add a specific among of "Next" clicks until the needed channel is reached.

Which type of channel buttons are available on your remote?

    Regards,
    MyPVR

P.S.:The Logitech service is realy good and implemented an additional way for me to use the Channel Manager mode of the TV with the Harmony, just ask them....

I have a Harmony 555 and a Samsung LE32R-something TV. On the remote that came with the TV there is no way to switch directly to the hdmi input - you have to use the "next input" button. But... the Harmony provides you access to *all* the codes that your TV will respond to, not just those on the original remote. In amongst all those codes I have found one that will switch directly to the hdmi input. Of course I can't guarantee that this will hold true for all makes/models of TV, but I'd recommend digging around and testing.

Edit: Just checked, and on my Harmony the name of the command is (helpfully) "Input HDMI1"
