How much FPS (Frames per Seconds) do you have within MP? (you find the frames per seconds in the settings within MP, where you set the text scroll speed).

You should have 50-60 FPS then you get a smooth interface, but think about it, fanart must be loaded once so you may encounter the first time that lag.

If you don't get that FPS turn off your 3D Settings (anti aliasing etc).

AW: Is MP slow because of my hardware?

    Hello.
    I'm using a HD5450 (1 GB DDR3) a while now. 1080i works perfect with my setup...

    Video Card: onboard

    this is the reason

get a low level gfx card like a nvidia 430 or similar low profile video card that can handle a decent resolution (1080p), assuming your screen displays it

I'm having a similar issue. Online videos and live TV that are in 1080p resolution drop frames. I get about 16fps according to the on-screen stats, and it's telling me it's dropping 3x as many as it's showing. I've tried every MPEG2 and h.264 codec combo. Instead of dropping frames, at least one codec will play the audio at the right rate, but the video plays slowly, lagging further and further behind.

Youtube videos play fine in a browser, and TV looks good in Hauppauge WinTV (not sure if there's a way to see the fps there), so I feel like the hardware and drivers are okay. For codecs, I have the SAF40 pack.

Attached is the debug log zip from a TV run with a configuration where the video lags. Also attached are non-debug EVR and MediaPortal logs from playing a Youtube video with a configuration where frames are dropped.

I also saw this post which looks to have very similar hardware and similar-but-not-identical symptoms, but I'm hoping his self-made conclusion is incorrect. I found something on the MP site (not sure if it was in the forums or the wiki) when I was building this system, which I read as saying this hardware would be sufficient, but I can't find that reference now.

Once again I would have to believe that the on board video is to blame.
Radeon HD 4200 is around about equivalent to the Nvidia 6000 series. (6800GS/GT)

    Cheers

Is the 4200 underpowered in general for this purpose, or is it because of being onboard? I swear I saw something that said this mobo/video combo would work for HD, or else I'd have bought something else.

Being on board wouldn't help. However I believe 4200 is underpowered. Why risk the problems you are having when there are far more powerful GFX cards available for very little money. For Au$60 you can get a Nvidia 430 1Gig.
    Au$70 Ati 5570 1Gig.

Sorry to correct you guys, but I own a onboard radeon 4290 and its not underpowered. I get 60 FPS in MP and all stuff I played is fluid and smooth (using PDVD10 DXVA enabled). Anyway it's not made for playing games.

I run 1080p on an onboard Radeon 3200. It is powerful enough alright.

The thread you are linking to is about 1080i. That takes a lot more horsepower than any curent integrated chipset will deliver.
