Wow! That would finally mean that a workable Linux HTPC is possible. The only thing that is completely missing in XBMC is TV support. But I guess that will be added soon, after introduction to the pc. Great news!

i would like to note that "soon" in developer terms is very differnet from the "soon" a enduser thinks about ;)

I'm a (web)developer myself, so I know... :) I guess if they start working on it now, they might have a working version for the various Linux distributions within half a year (keeping in mind that it's already running on Linux) and a workable Windows version within 3 years (?) I'm actually surprised they are going to make it work on Windows. That must be a difficult job.

I'm having visions of Ubuntu with XBMC intergated by default with a nice custom skin....tux everywhere.... (*Bram sounds like he's in love) :p

there allready is such a version ;)

but is not meant to be used as HTPC app atm (but works quite nicely ;) ).
its targeted to skin developers to make work easier.

The wonders of open source eh? :)

It seems no other commercial application comes close.

Commercial products comparable to Media portal?
    Windows Media Center.

I've used media center for about a year or a little longer and I love it and still think its better than Media Portal. MCE offers more for less setup.

Hey Joe, take a walk on the wild side. MCE offers way less than MP, have you ever tried setting up DVB-S on that system? It reeks of being a US based and designed, restrictive and unimaginitave program. And they want money for it! Cheers m

Hopefully trying to develop will open my eyes to the power of media portal, but I love the stability of media center. It works so perfectly sometimes I forget its there.

(aside: Where can I find bugs that need to be fixed, I wanna get a little more accustomted to the code.)

I've got three tuners in my tv server giving me three channels to use. MCE as I understand it offers no easy to setup remote tv server functionality, no where near MPs offering.

Spliting the duties is the only way to go IMHO, I've got a lovley slimline silent media case by my LCD TV and the noisy cardy, harddrivey server is in my spare bedroom :D
