Sounds good. Well what would help me is the following:
- a DTD that describes the XML. It helps to validate existing skins but also makes sure I implement all needed features and I create valid skins.

Anybody that wants to volunteer for that? Or anybody that has a description about all the possible xml-tags used and their meaning? I know there is the wiki at MediaPortal1_Development/SkinArchitecture - MediaPortal Manual Documentation but its not complete...

And thanks for the positive feedback... That motivates! So lets keep going.

    Hi steff20002

have a look at this thread:

    https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/skins-50/skin-editing-tool-alpha-0-2-not-safe-use-yet-51362/

Alltaken has invested some time to collect all the controls and at some point stated that has almost all.
He also encountered some case sensitivity problems which might be of interest for you.
Haven't really found out where to download his Alpha 0.2. You can try to contact him via pm, but I think he isn't working on it anymore and was last online 1st of july.

    Maybe it helps

An idea for this skin-editor could be to have a number of sets of magnetic-lines/snap-lines/guide-lines to "glue" controls to. The cool part would be to have ie. 4 sets of guides, one for normal windows, one for filmstrip, one for lists, one for dialogs etc.

This way you could quickly line up similar windows with stuff and then fine-tune afterwards.

    Keep up the good work!

I will.... of course its more work then it seems to be.
Anybody that volunteers to be an alpha-tester? Not the next days but in the next weeks.....

I'll be happy to test about 25 seconds after you let out an early version ;)

I don't know how to write a DTD, but I can help checking if any attributes are missing in the GUI controls, by checking the sourcecode of MP :)

well, if you want to help:

An overview over the available controls and their attributes (maybe with a hint what it does) would help.
I'm not really into skin design so far, so I don't know all these features.

I looked at the wiki but must of the controls are missing and the ones that are there are also not complete...

    Anybody else interested in supporting?

I added a couple of controls to the wiki, but only filled in the properties regarding the XML part. This is at what a skinner would expect as the minimum data.

    These are still missing:

    • group
    • playlistcontrol
    • playlistbutton
    • progress
    • selectbutton
    • slider
    • smsinput
    • statusbar
    • togglebutton
    • tvprogress
    • updownbutton

    thanks!

for now I started with the basics and infrastructure of the tool.
here an updated screenshot. I try to really get as much as possible WYSIWYG with some nice added features.

Waiting for some feedback/comments how you like it so far.
