    i have an MCE remote i got way back in 2005..still works here...sometimes i need to take the batteries out and press all the buttons to "discharge" it....coz sometimes it gets a energy bubble and the keys dont work..but thats not very often...maybe once or twice a year

    Your logitech harmony should work with no issues - just set it up so that it thinks its controlling Windows Media Centre - then it will emulate the MCE remote.

    I have a Harmony 555 and its working perfectly.

    Ok. The USB IR device I have attached has a red LED that flashes in response to button presses on the VRC-1100 remote. It doesn't respond to button presses on the Harmony. Presumably the HP unit that comes with the unit I ordered will.

    your problem sounds like your harmony remote is not emulating an IR protocol that the receiver can recognise/handle. There are different protocols eg. RC-5 etc. Your harmony is currently emulating a protocol that is incompatible with the receiver. It needs to emulate a remote that uses a different protocol that the receiver can handle. If it does this then you should see a red led light flash on the receiver. have you not tried to teach the harmony the VRC01100's IR signals?

    The advice to tell the Harmony to emulate an MCE remote is incorrect as it seems your current IR receiver doesn't receive MCE style IR signals.

    Here are my mappings for linksys / hp remote

    The following are changed from their default options

    Vol +/-/mute have been disabled as I use lmremote to blast my audio receiver with Vol+/-/power with these buttons
    My TV -> My TV Series
    My Videos -> Moving Pictures
    Live TV -> My TV
    Big green button -> Basic Home / Start mediaportal if it's not running
    My Music -> Toggles between browse music / playlist / now playing

    I also created a batch file using lmremote that force closes mediaportal + restarts it using the clear button

    Back up the original before changing
