UPDATE: I was able to rip a DVD using DVDFab and have it spit out the subtitle files. I set up MP to read the subs from a seperate folder and it works our great. I was even able to get my XBMC boxes to read from the same folder so I can have both using the same setup. I was looking for a way to make my DVD collection smaller and it looks like I found a way. I may try the .MKV format so the files are all together but for now I think I have found a good workaround and I can use the playlist function with the .AVI files!

Glad to hear you've got it figured out! So will you be converting your 350 ISOs? Can you do them all in a batch, or do you have to set them up individually? Also, how do you plan to deal with any multi-disc titles (e.g. TV series or LOTR extended)?

Very curious, since I've got about 340 ISOs myself. I've got some really big ISOs where I have combined all titles from multiple discs into a single ISOs. (Think 5 DVD sets combined into 1 ISO so it shows in MP as a single title.)

The nice thing is that I can use DVDFab to convert the ISO's to Xvid .AVI w/ subs via its batch function. I figure I will set up a few at a time and then run them when I am not using my computer and put them into a folder so I know what has been done.

I havent figured out the whole multi-disc thing yet, right now I have LOTR seperated in 2 ISOs. I have been meaning to figure this out but havent yet. I figure if you have already moved them to 1 ISO then you can convert that one ISO to 1 AVI? I dont know how the ISO is set up, if it has 2 main chapters then it will not work in DVDFab unless you can figure out how to make one big chapter and then convert that. However, i know there are tools that can combine 2 .AVI files but if you have subs, that may be more difficult unless the subs are rended direct to the video...

I figure I will keep some DVD movies in the ISO/VOB format and deal with the 'non-playlist capability' and 'no return to menu' issues. I want to move the files that we view on a regular basis to .AVI like the kids movies because I use the playlist feature on my XBMC frequently.

I've been looking for similar functionality...but I think what I'm going to end up doing is ripping DVD's to mpeg2's with full quality, and joining the mpeg's for multi-disk titles. I loose menu navigation/chapters, but until there's a workaround.
