I don't think you're understanding the point being made.
It wouldn't be called 'Pictures' in the ideal circumstance, because that's the media type. It might be called 'My Holiday' and it would contain any media relating to that subject.
The same applies with Music, as Music Videos also contain music. I'd quite like to put all Frank Zappa music, videos, documentaries in one place.
The same could apply with TV, as ripped DVDs of television programs currently sit in 'Videos'.
It seems crazy to have all the ultimate convergence device, but then artificially keep content separate because of the type of media it is. That said, this is just chat and I've got no time or inclination to actually perform any of this work :sorry:
i very much understand the point.
i fully believe that the way the menu structure currently is, is the best way to have it (in terms of ALL users, be it new or experienced).
if other people want to change it though, then that is the glory of open source.. you can write the new code to suit yourself

I too understand the concept and the example Idioteque gave makes sense, but it's still a feature that would make for a great 3rd party plugin, not for integration into MP itself.give the plugin a name like "my events" or "my media" and once inside you could have folders for different events or topics: "my trip" or "car stuff". Physically the media would be stored in its default locations but logically it would be organized together with mixed media types.
There is too much cross-referencing in MP today as is. For example, the my trailers link in my videos. If I wanted to watch trailers, I would press the home button on my remote and choose my trailers. I dont need it integrated into my videos, as all its doing is taking up screen space and confusing new users. (why do I have 2 buttons for my trailers? which one do i use?)

nobody is stopping you... if you want it, write the code.

I DO want people to use MP anyway they want to. MP was designed to be used anyway you want. It's very customizeable which can be a blessing and a curse sometimes.
What I dont want to see is this feature a main part of MP. Maybe im not explaining myself correctly?
If you want this feature then thats great, but getting this idea integrated into the main MP distribution is not going to work. Having it developed as a third party plugin is a much better idea! see if you can find someone who shares the same idea as you and is willing to create a plugin to do it - because with how busy the main coders are, i doubt any would be inclined to add this feature let alone would I recommend it from a usability standpoint.customize your installation anyway you want. The development team has to think about everybody else.
