    Hiya,

I am new to MediaPortal and am hoping to migrate the household from WMC. I have installed and set up a quad tuner DVB-T2 backend server on my network running MediaPortal and was planning to run a mixture of MP and Kodi clients on a variety of devices round the house.

I am currently trying to iron out any nasty bugs before showing to my primary user, Mrs Jolltax, it needs to be reliable as she gives no second chances :)

My current issues are summarised as follows:
    • Kodi clent works pretty well, channel changes are acceptably quick and so far so good.
    • The MP client which I was planning to use on our main HTPC is crashy, channel changes take aaaages, maybe 10s plus and it tends to bug out after a while. If I run Kodi on the same machine it works fine.
My thinking is that since the server seems to cope with the Kodi clients OK and performance is good it is some kind of configuration issue? Both server and HTPC client are i5 machines with 16Gb RAM so my guess is there is plenty of power/memory.

Would be grateful for any advice on where to start looking.

    Hello and welcome! :)

    AKA, SWMBO, LOL :D

As usual with problems around here, please start by posting log files. Without these, we have no idea what we're really dealing with.
On the client, use the watchdog/debug-mode tool:
    http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_MEDIAPORTAL_1/16_Support/3_Forums/2_Log_Files

    1. Ideally use option 1 or 2 to launch MP.
    2. Reproduce the problem.
    3. Close MP to collect log files into a convenient zip file.
    4. Post/attach the zip file here.
Note: if you can't reproduce the problem on demand then use option 3 to simply export the existing log files.

TV Server logs will be included in the zip if installed on the same PC. Otherwise, please also collect and post TV Server log files:
    1. Open TV Server configuration.
    2. Click "open log directory" in the top left corner.
    3. Zip all the files in that directory.
    4. Post/attach the zip file here along with the client log zip file.
    Regards,
    mm

Also take a look at; GUI -> On-Screen Display -> Zap Delay . Lower this to reduce the channel pause when selecting channels from the guide

Now added the server log, this stuff looks super complicated, hehe, thanks a lot for taking the time

That suggests the crashing is caused by a plugin. You could collect logs for that scenario by using the watchdog with option 2.

As for the slow channel changing: please disable the IPv6 protocol on the client and server network adaptors.
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929852

That should drop the first channel selection by ~20 seconds, and perhaps also lower the subsequent channel changes.

I also recommend that you configure your TV codec settings.
    http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_...nfiguration/9_Codecs_and_Renderer/1_TV_Codecs

    That should help as well.

    Regards,
