Puh, that was a tough one! Since I am using AMD "cool'n quiet" technology, I was supposed to select "Minimal Power Management" as power schema in the "Power Options Properties". In this setting, the operating system obviously is able to turn of the network adapter in order to save energy! And that caused the problem.... Just in case, somebody else experiences this (for me kind of annoying) feature, here is how to switch off this function: Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Network Adapters > Power Management > "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" Now I can relax and enjoy Last.FM without interruptions! Just for completeness: The method described above unfortunately did not work reliably. Now, I have a batch script running in the background, that simply sends one ping to some address (in this case to www.lastfm.de ;-) every 5 seconds. That worked for several hours the last couple of days without freezing, so I'd say: that really "fixed" my problem reliably. Obviously, it was some kind of strange combination of stream type (Last.FM), internet provider (KabelBW), application (MediaPortal) and network adapter causing the problem. BTW: youtube had the same problems, which are now solved.
