    Hi all,

I know in general what codecs are needed for but that's about it.
There is a new plugin - MEDIAPORTAL - LAV Filters - in the download section.

Can anyone please clarify what the differences/(dis-)advantages are of them?

    Thanks in advance,
    Peter

I just installed the LAV filters and everything works fine in MP. Even hoborg is switching to the LAV filters in his SAF 6 codec pack. The link in the download section is just to enable downloads (and I guess easier installs).

Windows 7 I would use LAV, in fact I do, anyone who is experiencing spdif specific problems should contact the author for support.

SAF6 is good as is also the Vista codec package by shark007 (LAV based as well), but in my opinion overkill for most users.

Last but not least, if you do not have a dxva codec like M$ or PDVD, then the above packages are useful for supplying one.

These are my thoughts regarding this and not necessarily the team, but less is more reliable in the world of filters ;)

LAV filter is imho the best filter available.
It has a really great image quality and it supports almost every format.

    I love it.

I use it together with LAV Cuvid the CUDA Video Codec but for this you need a Nvidia Cuda compatible graphics card.

    SAF includes LAV as well.

Anyway, for most users under Windows 7, LAV alone will be enough. In special cases you might need ffdshow, some specific configuration settings, the PowerDVD codec etc. for instance. These things are included in SAF. SAF also comes with some handy tools and applications, which can be important for debugging.

    AW: LAV or SAF?

But the HD Channels don't work with the Lav Video Codec. It is stuttering and have a high CPU-Use over 90%. I think it don't use the Hardware acceleration. Must I enable it, but where can I do this. Now I use the Microsoft DTV-DVD Codec. It works but I have a little drooped frames.

Yes, in your case you can select NVIDIA CUVID in the LAV video configuration under "Hardware acceleration".

Yes. But for LiveTV it's recommended to use the MS codec anyway. What amount of dropped frames are we talking about here?

Another option would be to try the PowerDVD codec for LiveTV.
