Learning IR commands ? (2 Viewers)

Hi, thanks for all your great work on this plugin. This is exactly what is needed.
I have a Fujitsu Siemens SCALEO E that works with XP MCE 2005 and is blasting IR commands to a satelit box Nokia 9802S.

Now I am trying to get Mediaportal do the same (have tried WITH and WITHOUT the replacement driver). Remark: When using the replacement driver - the MCE 2005 stops working and complains about the IR remote not present.

First of all I wonder how this pluging detects which frequency the remote control uses ? Does it at the very same time try to detect the frequency as well as the actual key pressed ?
The reason for asking is that i SUSPECT the plugin to not being able to detect the IR commands correctly on my SCALEO, because it seems like I have to press the actual key a number og times before it lights up green 'Learned IR' (I have set the learning timeout to 20 sec.). When pressing the TEST IR button nothing happens on my Nokia box.

Any ideas or suggestions is very much appreciated.

    Hi HrOlsen,

There are a number of issues with IR learning. For some people it works 100% of the time, for others it is unpredictable and problematic.

It sounds like you're in the later group.

It's a constant thorn in my side. I am always looking for ways to fix the problem and I have a number of projects on-the-go that are showing promise. But it will be some time before I come up with something that provides all the abilities of the current MceIrApi I'm using.

There is a quick setup option for the 9800s which is supposed to be compatible with the 9802s, have you tried it?

Also, there is information in the original thread about the 9802s, from what I remember it was a particularly hard set top box to set up with the MceIrApi.

    Good luck with it,

I'm going to look on RemoteCentral.com to see if I can find something to help you.

If I find anything that may help you I'll be sure to post here again.

    Cheers,

    Hi Aaron,
Thanks for your quick reply. Yes - I did try the quick setup, but that did not work for me either. Do you have a clue to if the replacement driver or not should have impact on the IR blaster part ? (It sure has on MCE 2005) I will serch more on the forums for 9802s...

There are a few (many) users experiencing problems trying to learn IR commands with the plugin. As I said.

Yes, the blaster part of the code is different in the replacement plugin to how it works in MCE, and it's learning code is different too. I'm working on something that should solve all that. I'm re-writing the MceIr.dll in C#... but it's not a high priority and it's taking a long time.

I'm keeping busy with a number of projects at the moment, but it is definitely on my list of TO DO items to take another look at learning IR codes and try to improve it.

I'll post back in this forum if I make any improvements to learning/blasting.

In the meantime, maybe try the HIPSend idea above. It's been talked about in the original MCE Replacement Plugin thread ...

    Cheers,
