Getting an HD stream out of either Virgin cable or Sky satellite is beyond what is allowed by their terms and conditions and as such is not really discussed on MediaPortal forums.

1. Wikipedia, it will take some twiddling to get a decent picture out of your plasma.
2. The Digital Everywhere cards are very good, but pricy, for freeview I have been using Pinnacle dual cards a lot and for satellite Twinhan.
3. There's always more!

so

1) i may as well just get sky hd then?? that has sky plus built in...alleviating the need for media portal, center, etc.?

2)if you were going to buy a 42" screen @ 1080p, which one would you get?
3) are there any to avoid?
4) LCD or plasma?
5) is a phillips 42PFL7662 any good (theres one on ebay for £739)

If your only use for a HTPC is to watch and record TV, there are very few good reasons to use MediaPoral, or any other software package. Get Sky HD, zero effort, reliable. User here have many other reasons to use MediaPortal, some have 50,000 songs to play, some have 20,000 games to launch, some watch all their TV from torrent files, most probably wouldn't bother if it was just TV they wanted.

I haven't seen the Phillips yet (but I will, that really is cheap!), if an opinion is what you want then AV Forums is the place to be, threads can sometimes degenerate into nonsense, but its the best place there is.

hey triton...another question, sorry chap:

when you say it will be difficult to get my current plasma to display at 1024 x 768, what do you mean by that as it workls just fine at 1024 x 768 at the moment (well, its displaying windows at that res and playing full screen films etc)

is there some other factor that would appear when i try to display hd content?

cheers
