Confirmed - Back tracked and redid both sources per your instruction and now am able to preview the channels with picture and sound.

    Great! :)

So as previously mentioned, the next stage is to configure your IR blaster. Do you use a Hauppauge blaster (ie. the blaster that came with your HVR-2255), or do you use a different one (eg. USB-UIRT, MCE transceiver)?

eHome Infrared Receiver (USBCIR). Came with the PC I bought specifically to run Windows Media Center - 2005 Media Center Edition. When I upgraded to Windows 8.0 I built the PC I am currently using as the tuner card was not compatible with Windows 8.0 and it was time to upgrade the hardware anyways (single core 386 w/1g of ram). Bought the HVR-2255 without a blaster (a little cheaper) since I already had one. PC I built is an i7 w/16g of ram, 500g solid state drive (OS and applications) and a 3 terabyte external drive (data) - quit a difference in performance.

Okay, I guess that's a MCE-compatible transceiver. That means the next stage is to install IRSS. I'm not particularly familiar with IRSS so I'm not going to be able to provide precise instructions for configuring it. However I'll do the best I can.

I recommend installing the latest unofficial build from here:
    https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...-unoficial-testing-version-no-support.119847/

During installation, make sure you select the option to install the TV Server plugin (TVE 3 Blaster plugin).

After installation, open the input service configuration and tick/enable the "transmit" option for the Microsoft MCE plugin.

Enable the TVE 3 Blaster plugin in TV Server Configuration and restart the TV service (as per previous instructions).

Within the plugin configuration in TV Server Configuration click "change server" and ensure localhost is selected.

Again, within the plugin configuration click "STB setup". This is where most of the important blaster configuration is.
Select the tab corresponding with the HVR-2255 analog tuner 1 (ie. the one which the STB is connected to).
Search for your STB vendor/model in the "quick setup" field. If it's there, select it and click "set"; if it isn't there you'll have to back out and learn the remote buttons in the "IR commands" tab (within the TVE 3 Blaster plugin).
Ensure the correct IR command and blaster port/output (ie. command column) are listed against each command (ie. external column) in the commands list.
When configured correctly you should be able to use the "test" function to confirm the blaster is working correctly.

Once the test function is working, the TV Channels preview function should also control the STB correctly (ie. preview should now show the channel you select).

Once the preview function is working your basic setup is complete. You can now configure everything else (eg. time-shifting and recording folders, visible channels and groups) to your liking, and configure MediaPortal. The quick setup guide in the wiki should be sufficient for a basic MediaPortal configuration:
    http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_MEDIAPORTAL_1/13_Setup_Guides/1_Quick_Setup

Within MediaPortal you should now be able to use all the TV functions - live TV, guide, schedules etc. :)

Sorry I haven't replied sooner, been out of town. Did as instructed and found the that my STB is not listed in the pre-config list. Tried to use the 2 that were listed as I hoped that even though the model was not the same the commands my be the same between models - no luck and I will have to learn the commands. I will attempt to do so tonight (did poke around a bit) and hopefully it's as straight forward as it appears. Thanks again for all your help and if I can get the blaster to control my STB then I should be set. I will report back.

    Thank you very much....
