I've allready suggested in the suggestion forum to make the network streaming buffer editable.

the background. Over my Wifi it is impossible to play Live TV without stutters. I've tried several different Wifi routers, settings (WMI, Packet-Burst etc.) drivers and different notebooks, but the result is always the same. Although i can measure a throughput of steady 16 MBit, a normal PAL TV Stream (about 6Mbit) wont play without stuttering.

With VLC i dont have this problem since i can edit the network buffer, and even HD streams play fine. But i want to use MP.

Since a higher buffer would of course impact the zapping time, which everyone seems to be very keen about, i understand that this is not a priority. But to make it a setting in the TV-Plugin shouln't be that difficult ?! (maybe i'm horribly wrong and just offended the devs :) )

Anywho .. does anyone else have problems with live TV over Wifi, any advice what else i could try ?

Good question! I use MPTVClient to stream Live TV from a HTPC with TV-Server to a eeePC over WiFi, and it uses VLC do play the stream, but with stutters. :(
How can I configure MPTVClient or VLC to enlarge buffer size? Will this solve my problem?

Is there another app/plugin to stream Live TV to VLC?

    Thanks,

    Jim

This sounds like it is a software issue with MP as you get no stutter with VLC player. This implies that network traffic is good.

I assume that you have done the sanity check with your hardware i.e.

When you do a ping to the wireless client what is your network latency (lag).
If it is <1ms then at least you have eliminated any weird routing issues and have passed the sanity check.
Verify that all your network connections between client and server are running at full duplex.
Update all NICs to latest drivers and Router firmware to latest Revision. Replace all cabling to eliminate that.

If you have a linksys WRT54G then you can overclock it. But that would be an extreme solution.

Out of curiousity... are you using encryption or other security on your wireless router?
If yes then have you tried turning it off to reduce latency.
Obviously you want security on but it would at least eliminate a factor for test purposes.

    Problem only with MP

I think that the problem is in Mediaportal, beacuse if i use the DVBviewer with the same HPTC and the same Router wifi linksys ad same configurations of encryption, in this case work fine.
My opininon is Mediaportal have some problem to manage buffer and streaming feature...

I've always thought the problem (at least part of it) was that live TV is streamed over UDP not TCP so there is no error correction if something is lost in the air, that's it; it's not going to be re-sent and pile up in the buffer. Am I wrong?

Sorry to dig up such an old thread but wondering if there has ever been a solution to this problem?
i.e. being able increase the network buffer to cover for inevitable dropped packets over wifi.
