This problem only happens intermittently and I've only noticed it recently, so perhaps some plugin or update is causing it.

In the attached logs, when I started TV, it played for 1-2 seconds then stopped and returned me to the EPG. Trying again, the same thing happened.

I think I didn't try again until after collecting the logs, and it worked then.

The logs were collected straight after this happened, so it would be at the end of them, around 17:59 - 18:01 on 23/10.

Just happened again. Took me three tries before it would continue playing normally.

I see this in the error.log:
"2011-10-25 22:15:32.884240 [ERROR][MPMain(1)]: PlayerFactory: Error creating player instance - Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt."

I wonder if Outpost Security Suite is causing this. Both the Firewall and Anti-Leak components are configured to either Allow or Prompt for anything though, and I'm not getting any prompts.

I think this is an OSS problem, but I wonder if anyone can help me sort it out.

I've set the rules to Allow all for Mediaportal.exe, Configuration.exe, SetupTV.exe, TVService.exe and even disabled the Anti-Leak and System Guard components, leaving only the Firewall, but I'm still having problems starting TV (it won't start at all this morning) and seeing the following in MediaPortal.log:

I added exceptions to Avira for my Mediaportal folders (including my media folders and my RAMDISK, which holds my timeshifting files) and the processes, Mediaportal.exe, TVService.exe, mtn.exe as advised in the Wiki Anti-Virus Settings - MediaPortal Wiki

Bizarrely, this only seems to have made things worse and now MP is hanging either on the EPG or a black screen when I try and start TV or play a TV recording, requiring me to kill it via Task Manager. I'm associating this with adding the exceptions to Avira, as it's happening even with Outpost suspended/disabled, which previously made everything work, and doesn't seem to happen if I disable Avira as well as Outpost.

I did try rebooting, which didn't make any difference.

Attached logs from when it locked up this morning, around 08:05. I'll try and make some more later, when my recording's finished.

Actually, this problem only seems to be when trying to play back Recorded TV, not LiveTV.

Logs attached, from when LiveTV was playing and I tried to play a Recording and it just froze on a black screen

I'm actually still having problems with MP locking up when trying to start TV, even with Avira and OSS disabled.

It was working earlier though, so on this occasion might have been caused by my trying to add Audio Renderer Changer. I've disabled it again, and MP seems to be working OK again.

The first time I tried ARC I set it to Directsound: Realtek Speakers (with an ffdshow .reg file) and I got no sound, just picture and GraphStudio showed that ffdshow's output wasn't connected to anything. I then changed it to Default DirectSound device, and then MP locked up when trying to start LiveTV.

As this particular instance seems to be due to ARC, I'll post about it in the ARC thread, but thought I'd post about it here in case it sheds any light on the problems I've been having even without ARC.

    Hi doveman

    Are you using the default TsReader?
    In your first logs the reason why playback stopped is:
    TSReaderPlayer : currentPos > duration

    Hi mm,

    It's the standard TsReader, and the player shouldn't be producing that message for live TV (timeshifting):

    Code:
          if (_currentPos > _duration && !IsTimeShifting)
          {
            Log.Info("TSReaderPlayer : currentPos > duration");
            MovieEnded();
          }

    Thanks Owlsroost,

    I thought it was but was going to check before replying, but you've saved me the trouble (I'm not going to ask how you know!).

    I think the only non-default components I'm using are the dshowhelper_v0084_part_DWM and Sebastiii's DVB Subtitles patch from here https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...a-540/dvb-subtitles-default-97955/index2.html

    Just had another MP lock up.

    I started to play a current recording from the beginning. Then I realised that the programme hadn't actually started yet (it had just recorded adverts), so I went to the EPG and tried to play the channel live, which is when MP locked up.
