I've been running mediaportal as a shell for about 3 months all has been fine , untill yesterday it stops when splashscreen loads and says "error must have 16-bit or 32-bit display to laod , mediaportal will now close" not the exact wording but had no pen at the time lol

any ideas anyone?

Try re-installing video drivers, you might need a delay before MP loads, just to make sure the drivers have loaded properly,

You can do this in MP config\general\startup delay.

Why things have changed, ask windows, especially if any updates done.

This don't work as the delay uses the splashscreen to show the delay timer. the splashscreen is the cause , if i remove the splashscreen xml it boots fine
