Yeh I guess I'm being picky, but over here in the UK our only FTA "freeview" (DVB-T) service has LCN so all set top boxes have standard channel numbering and the channels appear in that set order on all epg guides. Would really polish off my MP experience.

Then you're in the exact same boat as everyone in North America. Most of our channel lineups are missing the odd channel here and there but when MP loads the channel numbers, they all in numerical order with no gaps.

Yes it's annoying, yes eventually we'd like it changed (and sooner or later it will happen), but no we aren't going to die from it.

Khris,
I assume you say "but no we aren't going to die from it" because you may not have many channels.
In my case I have direct tv and I'm using the plug-in to have MP change channles on the DTV's STB.
My subscription to DirectTv has about 500 channels. Since the MP channel line-up does not match the numbers with the actual DTV channels, I have to remember the whole 500 channels internal line up by hard !!! ??? !!!

That is:
HBO on DTV starts in channel 500. But MP says it is 122.
Music channel Soft rock start at 800. MP... I can't remember
Channel UPN44 is suppose to be channel 44. For MP, again.. I cant' remember.

What if I want/need to remove a channel? I'll have to learn the whole thing again?

I find this not only annoying but also a showstopper when it comes to use MP to watch tv.
Think about it... what's the thing that we do the most when we watch tv? Flipping channels! If we make that annoying, then watching tv becomes annoying.

It is being worked on I believe. I had a hack that I submitted to Frodo a while back to deal with this. However someone is apparently doing a 'cleaner' implementation. If this is delayed I could re-implement my hack pretty quickly and submit it. I will talk to the master when he returns to us.

bump. Just another happy MediaPortal DirecTV user that really wishes direct channel access was an option/plugin. As is, the only way for me navigate channels is to go the TVGuide and use lots of page-ups/downs to find the right channel. I subscribe to the most basic service and I still have a few hundred channels.

To add to the feature request a bit more, on the TVGuide display, entering a number (1 to 4 digits, plus <enter> probably) would auto scroll the TVGuide selector to the desired channel nbr. In the fullscreen TV view, entering a number (plus <ENTER> probably), would automatically tune that channel nbr.

There are at least three different threads on these forums discussing similar requests. This one seemed to be the most current. I do see some difficulties in staying compatible with the Europeans due to the extensive flexibility of MP itself, but it seems doable via configurable options.

I'm also a .NET developer and am becoming familiar with the MP codebase, but it sounds like there are others already working on this. ...I hope. ;)

Is there a way to really learn if a plugin is actively being worked on by a specific developer? It seems like IRC is the only way and that is a hit-or-miss approach.

Is this problem actively being worked on by one of the developers? I ask because it seems that there could be help if needed from .Net developer (kaliatech) waiting in the wings.
