There are a few things I've noticed so far that are a problem for me. If any other people have migrated from Meedio, maybe we could get some type of guide put together on what plugins do what and where they are located as to recreate our original setup....just an idea. Anyhow:

1) The configuration utility is useless when running a screen resolution of 640x480/720x480. Can this be fixed? I hate to think that every time I tweak something I am going to have to change resolution (not so easy with the newer cards as it was when I could use powerstrip). Is it possible to do all of these things from the fullscreen GUI itself maybe?

2) Is there an equivalent to the TV On Demand plugin that we use to use in Meedio? That is a biggie for me.

3) I see how the configuration of menus works using the Home plugin but how do I make new video libraries? I want several different ones.

4) How do I filter views in my libraries in a way so that I have something like this:

Movies
All
Unwatched
Animation
Comedy
Drama
Action
Horror
80's movies
90's movies
2000's movies
4-star and above movies
3-star movies

Possible in Mediaportal?

5) Is it possible to make thumbnails of video files? If so, does it require a plugin?

I really do apologize for all the noob questions. Maybe I'm too trained in Meedio and need to untrain myself. Any help and guidance in general would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

better late than never... I'm using Meedio, too, and am testing MP 0.2.0. So I can answer some of your questions:

1.) no, cannot be fixed. Is not designed for such small screen resolutions. But the meedio config is no pleasure at his resolutions, too.

2.) don't know

3.) no different video libraries possible. MP is organized different and unforunately does not have the concept of multiple media libraries. And, also, it does not have the concept of importers for a media library. This stuff is currently much better in Meedio. On the other hand, other stuff is much better in MP...

4.) Only the music module has some kind of a filter. In the music views you can enter criterias for a view level; but it's not the same than in Meedio. Mainly because the filtered view level is still being displayed. I filed this as a feature request, but I don't think that his will be implemented quickly.

5.) Create your own thumbnails or get images from the web and save them as "folder.jpg" in a movie's folder.

I'd have to wonder what the point of using MP is then? It does me no good to spend a ton of time setting something up that, ultimately, won't do what I need it to. It would be easier to swallow is I was trying to do something off-the-wall but I'm not.

What is "much better" in MP?!

IMHO there are four main advantages over Meedio:

MP is living: It is being further developed on a daily basis whereas Meedio's development is (officially) stopped. Take SteveV for example: Yesterday, he released an application for testing his new tag reading component. This made me remember the old Meedio days when flea0 did exactly the same...
This means that the disadvantages of MP over Meedio most probably will disappear one day: We - the former Meedio users - can share our experience with the developers to add Meedio features we miss in MP.

MP is open source. You don't have to be anxious that one day you MP is sold to a big company in order to materialize.

The TV module is much better. In MP you can use multiple tuners. Let's take my example: In Meedio, I couldn't use my settop box which provides digital TV together with my PVR which show analog channels.

Cable radio just works out of the box. This feature was never implemented into the core product.

Haha good to see you here dbennett, I see it didnt take you long to start complaining over here too! The more Meedio escapees the better, as it has some very good features that MP is still missing, but im sure they will be included in time.

    2) Is there a tvshows plugin? Yes.

Best thing about MP is that if you dont like something, go over to IRC, pick up studio.net and you can write these things yourself.
