This has now exactly happened to me - my videos is no longer usable. It opens my music instead.
Is there any way I can repair this or do I have to uninstall MediaPortal completely and then install it again from scratch?

NO, no need for uninstall, just delete false entries in MediaPortal.xml (MP config folder) https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...-video-menu-opens-my-music-100935/#post793138

This will be resolved in MP 1.2.2
