You could even create a short avi file or similar telling you that you have to insert the disk. Rename it to all your different movies you have on your shelf like you stated and then search but don't delete the folder. Then if you try to play the movie it will play a short vid telling you that it isn't a local file and you need to insert the disk.

This is a fairly commonly asked for feature and it is scheduled to be included. It will just prompt you to insert the disk when it's not available. See this issue. It will not be included in the next release but it should be added in the next major (non bug fix) release after that.
Everything does take time though. So for now Zebons is right, MyFilms, may be a better choice if you are really serious about including disk based media ASAP.
