Where do you get the mediaportal...or Moving Pictures mapping codes for changing
the microsoft mce.xml
so as to use some of the extra keys on a microsoft remote?

such as to remap the green button to start Mediaportal instead of VMC?

and help with doing things in Moving pictures

such as the red button for jumping direct into movie area in Moving pictures

This looks like ...just what I was after...especially if I get a better remote
in the future to operate the other components
like my Receiver and Tv as well.

and it seems to allow changing button commands thru a nice interface.

The only question I still have ...what commands do you relate the keys to in Mediaportal

..is it the Keyboard shortcuts list?

Thats the only one I could find?

MediaPortal has its own support for remotes in the config settings. I use LMrk for the green button to launch it, and for other tasks (MPC-HC controls via assigning hotkeys to remote buttons).

Sorry ...I'm new to this remote business
...so if you want to assign the windows button to launch Mediaportal...in LMK

how do you know what code to assign to that button in LMK??

Configure LMK to use the MCE remote (choose/setup remote). Then, under Default profile, click edit, and click the green button or scroll down to the windows key. Select launch application, and point it at MP. Done!

Also, make sure WMC is disabled so the key doesn't launch it as well.

Actually with LM Remote KeyMap you don't need to disable Media Center for using the Windows Green button: in LM RKM go to "Customize your remote", then click on "Change remote settings" and select the option "Exclusive use of MCE remote...". Be sure to unplug / plug back your remote receiver for changes to apply (sometimes you'll need to reboot your PC two times to be sure the change is applied).

Stéphane.

At present I am using the default Microsoft profile..
shown in Mediaportal remote configuration area.

And with the Hauppauge RC6 MCE remote..the navigation around
the StreamedMP amd Moving Pictures menus..is very responsive!!!

But only half the keys are active ...the important ones mostly
so I wanted to try and remap the others
like as example the green windows button...to open Media portal instead of VMC

So now you mention this LMK software..
and using it to remap keys..like the green Button

just a few questions ..
does using a remote mapped using LMK provide responsive remote keys
ie immediate menu reaction in MP or StreamedMP..or is it slow?

How do you know what commands to tell LMK
to do the various menu and navigation commands around Media portal/StreamedMP/MP???

Doesnt Media portal have a default set of remote commands?
which then have to translated to whatever software you use?
or are these all keyboard command translations..from Media portal/MP etc???

I'm using a slighthly different remote that uses regular mce buttons.

The approach is totally different.
I would expect MP to obey virtually any remote when using this EventGhost approach.
(For compatibility of your remote with EventGhost check EventGhost.)

In the forum I found a fantastic manual to get my remote - gyration 3101 - to work as a charm using eventghost.
The manual is on this spot: https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...ation-mce-remote-supported-29641/index13.html.
I have to thank iancalderban for this manual, because it probably saved me a large amount of time not having to do trial and error stuff.

It is as responsive as when you don't use LM RKM.

This depends on the application. Basically you remap remote buttons with keyboard shortcuts (you can download application profiles submitted by other users if you are a donator). Keyboard shortcuts are not the only things you can assig to a remote button: you can send message, turns monitor on/off, blast ir codes, launch application. You can be creative...

LM Remote KeyMap is easiest to setup than EventGhost, but otherwise the approach is the same. Instead of relying on remote support from each application you can use. You instead use a remote mapping software that translate button press into something each application you use understand.

Also the remote software can easily "orchestrate" all your applications : launching / closing / put the PC into standby etc...
