I have tested haali matroska with error messages enabled. it says: "too many tracks"

So its not MP bug But haali matroska limitation
    Great finding romuz!

In this case i will change the status of this thread to "no bug" since it is not a bug of MP.

for the record, MPC-HC also has a direct show mkv splitter, maybe that one does not suffer from this limitation the Haali splitter has. :)

It suffers from MP limitation that wont allow tracks to be switched etc :)

I can confirm that it does not suffer from the bug. I registered the latest MatrosaSplitter.ax standalone filter and now both Windows Media Player and MediaPortal can play the video. Unfortunatley, there is no interface to enable subtitles in WMP and MP shows an empty list where the subs should be.

Have you enabled MPC subtitle engine in MP? And Attach new logs ;)

Yes, it just shows an empty list of subs. Disabling the standalone filter and restarting MP fixes it. So it seems to be an MP limitation, since the splitter works fine with MPC-HC.

EDIT: I reported the bug on the Haali Doom9 thread. Apparently Haali supports a maximum of 32 streams.

Here are logs of RC3 with the standalone MPC-HC Matroska splitter. It shows that all subtitles fail to load. It's not just failing to show the list - it's actually not loading them, heh.

I found (somewhere on this forum) an mpcSubs.dll replacement that had code to allow the MPC standalone matroska filter to work with subtitles in MP. I've tested it at home and I can open an MKV (in this case avatar) with DTS-MA audio, and multiple subtitles, and it lets me see the list and choose whichever subtitle I want and the subs actually play. Search this forum for mpcSubs.dll maybe you'll find it. I just had to overwrite the existing file.

Edit: Woops the post above mine actually has the link right to it - I have it on my MP install and it works beautifully.

So you just swap one problem with an other. :(

Lets see which of these 2 teams first comes up with a working solution. :)

Isn't this a patch for the problem on MP side?: https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/submit-code-patches-mediaportal-tv-server-etc-325/mpc-hc-subtitle-engine-support-mpc-splitters-78935/

I simply replaced the stock mpcSubs.dll with the patched one, and now it works perfectly. All 40 subtitles, visible and working - including styled ASS subs with custom fonts. Thanks!

NOTE: There is a nasty bug with the MPC-HC splitter. It plays all audio tracks simultaneously and doesn't show a list of audio streams. When Haali is used, only the default audio track is played. Furthermore, MP displays all audio tracks when Haali is used. Replaces one bug for a bigger one, heh. In order to change audio tracks, you have to minimize MP, and use ffdshow's "Stream Switcher". Not exactly elegant.

It suffers from MP limitation that wont allow tracks to be switched etc :)

Well, I guess we know the answer to that. The fix was already in existence. It simply hasn't been added to the release.

Independently on selected player - either MPC-HC or MediaPortal - with mediafiles containing huge number of subs (or tracks) you will face problems - sometimes they will be very visible, sometimes not.
Cheaper to exclude unused subs by mkvtoolnix.
