I'm about ready to just quit playing with this damn thing and go back to paying for cable...sigh

I'm running:
MP v.1.4
XMLtv plugin
MySQL database
v1.2 of mc2xml along with xmltv.dtd, both from their website.

Problems:

A) After downloading the xmltv.xml file (run mc2xml, microsoft legacy, no options checked, zip 75235, op.8 time warner cable.) and renaming tvguide.xml, I am unable to map with the default tvguide. I open tvguide.xml in notepad, delete the first two lines of code specifying the encoding specs and whatnot, and then I am able to map. How can I get around this? Doesn't seem like I should have to go deleting things.

B) Now that I have everything mapped, I save and go forth trying to import EPG data. When I hit "force import", I immediately get an error message. "XML tv import error loading [filepath]\xmltv\tvguide.xml err:Invalid character in the given encoding. Line 8577, position 63. at System.Xml.XmlTextReaderImpl.Throw(Exception e)"

Thus, I am stuck. I have no idea what the hell to do. I'm no simpleton, but I couldn't tell you the first thing about coding or encoding either. So I'm going to put it to you all. What gives?

I've included an error file, along with tvguide.xml (reduced to the first 9000 lines to limit file size, i understand error is line 8577). The forum won't let me upload .dat or .dtd files.

Thanks for any and all....

    hi Big_Chief

hopefully we can get your mc2xml problems worked out. I tried your zip=75235, op=8, with mc2xml v1.2 and it works on my system. I mapped 2 channels, imported the EPG, and the MePo TV Guide shows the expected data. Can you double check a couple of things.

    1. the folder you defined for tvguide.xml with the TV Config tool has the tvguide.xml file and the xmltv.dtd file. see wiki
    http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_...tion/TV-Server_Configuration/13_Plugins/XmlTv

    2. the xmltv.dtd file ends with a ".dtd" extension. some browsers seem to download this as a ".txt" file and you need to fix the extension.

    3. you need to re-run mc2xml to generate new tvguide.xml file. the 1st 2 lines are important and the xmltv plugin will not be able to import any channels or guide data if these line are removed. you may need to remove the mc2xml.dat file to download the guide data.

if you need to upload .dat, .dtd files, you can make a zip file with them and upload the .zip file with your message.
