rsbrux - thanks for the encouragement; what do you see under device manager under the HID and USB hives?

guytpetj - my computer time is spotty with life being the way it is (work/commute/child/wife) so it may be difficult to coordinate the chat with the added complication of time zones. If I can't get anything going in the next few weeks I may still take you up on the offer though.

Thanks.

Thanks
@plemen,
In case you need any encouragement, my MCE PC also has a built-in IR receiver and works fine with the out-of-the-box MCE RC support (no additional SW needed). I can control MP either with my original MCE remote or with an iPAQ 3950 running Pronto emulation SW. With the Pronto emulation, I can even simulate an MCE IR keyboard for use in MP functions (like Music Search) which accept keyboard input.

    Hi plemen,
    Not sure if this is what you meant, but here are screenshots from my Device Manager. It may be hard to interpret, since I have several USB peripherals and still have entries for a defunct RF keyboard.

    Thanks rsbrux - I see that you have an ehome Infrared device under both USB and HID. I have neither of those devices/drivers. I followed another thread and modified the attached ehome drivers by adding my hardware id and it did install - however it had a yellow exclamation beside it under devices indicating something was not right. I've reverted back to the original drivers.

    I've dug up an old Twinhan USB remote receiver and I am emulating that with my Logitech Harmony - this is working great for me for now. I'm out of ideas on how to get the MCE IR Receiver to work - I'm pretty sure MP just isn't detecting my hardware properly and I will wait for an update to MP and monitor these threads.

    Thanks to everyone for trying to help.

    Hi plemen,
    Maybe this is a stupid question, but I don't see your system spec here. What OS are you running? IIRC, there might be a couple of extra steps needed to get MCE Remote to work, if it isn't an MCE OS (e.g. XP MCE or Vista MCE). I seem to recall seeing some threads here about how to get this stuff to work under other OS, e.g. XP Home or XP Pro.
