I've been asking questions about this, but I think I've been asking in the wrong forum, or at least one that's not very populated.

I've been using this generic MCE remote that I got on ebay a couple years back to control an older version of MP. It's worked fine, but I just upgraded MP to the latest version, and for some reason, the "Back" key doesn't work. I can see the IR receiver flashing when I push the button, but nothing happens.

It seems like the whole remote control technology is kind of a black hole. You push a button and something may or may not happen. It would be nice (and it honestly doesn't sound that difficult) if you could push a button, the software would say "I just received code 9AF4", and you tell MP to assign that to the "Previous Menu" function.

Short of that wishlist item, is there anything I can do to make this work?

Thanks for any help.

I'm running XP, the non MEdia Centre edition, and bought this remote here:

Emprex 3009URF Wireless Windows MCE Remote Control | Ebuyer.com

Initially, I'd configured MP to use an MCE remote but the back button wouldn't work. Only when I set MP to use a Generic HID device did the back button start working.

Not sure why it would have worked with an earlier version but might be worth a try.

Cheers!

Dave

Thanks, Noshir. Not sure why I did it, but I also have it set to use the Generic HID device. I think something else wasn't working quite right, and that fixed it.

The back key doesn't work, but I know that it sees it, because if I go to something where it allows you to enter information via an on-screen keyboard (mouse over the keys to click), I can enter a few keystrokes in, and then when I hit my "Back" key, it functions as a backspace, erasing the letters I "typed".
