Works here without problems. Also it's getting focus when hitting the start button on the remote.

Did you install TweakUI and disable "Prevent applications from stealing focus"? If not, do it, otherwise MP can't gain focus. No application can. That's a "feature" of XP. ;)

i've found that if i load MP by pressing the green buttong (via MPtray), then certain buttons on the remote don't work straight away (arrows buttons biggest example)

i have to press "Guide" or "live tv" then go back to the main menu to get the arrow buttons to start working.

if i load MP by double clicking on the desktop icon, then the arrow buttons work first time.

not sure if that's an MPTray or an MP issue though!

this happens on 2 seperate systems.

surely though if it was a "focus stealing" issue then ALL the remote buttons wouldn't work ??

my issue is that only "some" of the buttons don't work straight away.

Well, the thing is, the cursor keys are not controlled by MP, they are controlled by XP. So if MP does not receive the cursor keys from your remote, MP simply doesn't have focus.

XP's focus handling can be somewhat tricky, especially the fact that some installations/applications can change the setting fully or half-hearted. I had to reset the setting using TweakUI several times already.

so a combination of TweakUI and using the tickbox in MP config that says "allow apps to gain focus" should help ?

mPod you are my Hero !

It works. I installed TweakIU, activated "Prevent applications from stealing focus" and it works very fine.
    Never stop learning... :)

("allow apps to gain focus" in MP Config is activated too)

    :D
