ok, so I've done some work and I've put together a program that does NOT use the MceIr.dll but can access the MCE transceiver to receive and blast IR codes.

Basically, if people with Vista can run this program, point there MCE Remote at the receiver, press a button and have the program respond and then blast back the IR code then I know I'm on the right track. And then I just have to figure out how to get the MceIr.dll to do it too. If it doesn't work then I know there's more to it and I have to get my own copy of Vista to debug the whole process on.

NOTE: Newer version of attachment is two posts lower.

Run the attached exe from a command prompt and use one of the following parameters to try the different Guids that are in the program.

xp - Windows XP with Microsoft Driver
    vista1 - Windows Vista Test 1
    vista2 - Windows Vista Test 2
    vista3 - Windows Vista Test 3
    vista4 - Windows Vista Test 4

    Cheers,

Well. This can't be easy without having the OS. Sorry. Seems like Vista1 is the most promising. Can it be that Vista is somehow blocking access to the device?

    XP:
    Connecting to MCE Transceiver ...

    No MCE Transceiver detected.
    Failed to start MCE Transceiver.

    Vista1:
    Connecting to MCE Transceiver ...

Press an MCE remote button to test receiver ...
Received button presses will be retransmitted to test blasting ability.

    No reaction on buttons pressed.

    Vista2:

    OK,

one last attempt, before I resign myself to having to get Vista.

I've made a couple of small changes to this test version, it's looking to kill off ehtray (forgot to have it do that in the past), and it's changed the sharing mode when connecting to the driver. Hopefully this fixes it all.

So give the attached copy a try and let me know if you have any success.

    @everyone:

A couple of people have offered to let me remote-desktop their Vista PC to help out. Unfortunately, with this last effort I'm making now I don't think there is anything left for me to try on a remote-desktop that would help. What I really need to do is get Vista myself and settle in for a good debugging session :)

    Thanks,

    Hi.

Sorry to report it doesn't work. But when I interrupt the program, it shows all the buttons that was pressed:

    C:\temp>mcetransceiver vista1

    Good news,
I'm getting Vista in the next few days. So I'll take a day or so to get set up and then I should be able to debug what's going on.

I'll let you know when I find something...

    Cheers,

I have a lowly 32-bit AMD Athlon XP 2600+ CPU in my PC. I bought it at the same time as I got my HTPC. And that was just shortly after the dawn of time. At least, that's the way it feels.

I was going to upgrade last year, but I ran out of money.

So 64-bit will come after 32-bit Vista support. Sorry :(

Theoretically, once I have 32-bit support for Vista it shouldn't be hard to support 64-bit. Theoretically.

I can't say how long Vista and then 64-bit driver support will take. I really won't know until I start. My copy of Vista should be arriving in the next week, so I'll let you know when I get started.

Thanks for the enthusiasm though, it will keep me plugging away at it.

    Cheers,
