I bought this item

X-Gene 2.4GHz Wireless MCE Remote Control 01034 Optical Trackball 8 Channel 800 DPI-Best Computer Online Store Houston Buy Discount Prices Texas-Directron.com

A Wireless trackball remote (X-gene)! Its suppose to be media centre compatible! All the buttons work with media centre/player etc. the mouse works fine on it, but none of the buttons work with mediaportal i.e. play/pause, stop etc. The volume works but is very jumpy. I searched online for drivers etc. but there are none available. I have activated the mce remote option in the config and also tried the other remote options but to no avail.

Can this be fixed, or is there a way to manually map each button ?

Thanks

You need to map the keys , i´ve did that with my i-mon and worked fine. For that model i believe you need to google it and i hope you can find it.

best regards,
Paul

Slightly unsure as to what I need. Is it a driver or software to map the keys or can i do it manually in mp config ? I searched online for kep mapping of it but no results. Maybe too rare an item ? Thanks

Well you need to map the keys with the driver of the keyboard and also make or get some sort of a keys add in to activate it into the MP (its like a makro that you need to create it).

Hate to be annoying here, but that last post is beyond me I'm afraid. Thanks for reply anyway though. I really want to figure this out instead of switching to Windows media centre as I think mediaportal kicks its ass in everything.

I have just got my hands on a new remote as old one broke.

PC Remote Control 4 Microsoft Media Center MCE Vista XP - eBay (item 180254664967 end time Jun-17-08 04:54:51 PDT)

Plugged it in, enabled MCE Remote in configuration. Started mediaportal and its the same as before. The mouse function works, selection buttons, but no play button, pause etc etc.

Is there a not-too-technical way of getting this to work?

What is the remote recognised in device manager as, you could try selecting in MPconfig\remotes HID instead. if it shows as mouse\keyboard.

And the prize for digging up the oldest thread goes to....... lol

It stopped working again shortly after! Eventually I got so annoyed I just installed Windows media centre and been happy since! (I know, worst place to say that)

Happy to see you're still alive ! :D

    (sorry for my poor english)

Did you find a driver for this remote ? I googled a lot but couldn't find anything ...
Problem is: this remote has no brand, so you end up with all sorts of irrelevant information.
But I really like it, and if I could make it work with MediaPortal, it would be great !
