Downloaded these five programs using the links to the Microsoft website, to fulfill the requirements listed in the MP website:
  1. DirectX 9 runtime (June 2010):

  2. Visual C++ 2008 SP1 (x86) redistributables:

  3. Visual C++ 2010 (x86) redistributables:

  4. Visual C++ 2013 (x86) redistributables:
  5. NET Framework 4.5.1 Full (or newer)

I saved the above five downloads on my PC and then ran them locally. The 3 Visual C++ programs ran ok, two of them that had some adjusting but got done successfully. All but the DirectX executions appear in Control Panel Programs/Features. Not sure how to verify if the DirectX execution is in the right place.

I believe that my TV card and other system attributes are all ok for MP2. (See my stored Sys component list).

Not sure if my video card (in my case: integrated chip set on mother board) is DirectX compatible.

I have and the latest Microsoft updates as of a week before the MP2 launch attempt.

When I tried to launch the MP2 Summer 2015, I got the following:

First: Got the following warning: ! Media Portal 2 requires DirectX 9.0c Runtime to be installed. (I clicked OK, the only option).

Then: This message MediaPortal 2 Setup Wizard ended prematurely because of an error. Your system has not been modified. Click FINISH to exit Setup Wizard.
What does "system has not been modified." mean??

Can someone point me in a direction on why this launch of MP2 is not working? Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Thanks,
Dan the Man

I want to thank to the guys above that tried to help me fix my MP2 launch problem/. I have decided that I have tried to do something that is way over my head. I am a hardware person, not a software guy. I do not understand a lot about soft ware lingo that you folks know very well. I have not even been able to find thing that have been suggested to me above ( Update 1 snapshot). I clicked on the suggested link, but only got some background as to what the update did to fix some earlier shortcomings of MP2, but not a link to go to for doing the download! So I am giving up on MP in general, and I plan to search out some easier, less complicated alternative that just allows me to record TV programs and view them. Thanks again for the offers to help me out.

    Were you aware that MP2 is a work in progress (and as such, isn't necessarily the best choice for somebody who wants something they can just install and use)? MP 1 is the mature product which most people here are using.

    Did you miss the bit in bold?

    Good luck. :)

    I went ahead with a staff member's suggestion to try installing MP1, which is a mature version of MP. I downloaded MP1 from your website and stored it locally (file name was Setup.exe). I ran it and it installed several items, none of which seems to have much to do with Media Portal. It installed: Update Admin, Playthrough Player, File Opener, KNCTR, Eshield browser and Arcade Twist. None of these seem to get me to anything related to a TV type application to record and play live TV, and look thru a TV Guide type of program listings. What did I do wrong? Comments please. Thanks.

    @high this sounds quite badly if the MP1 installer does bring such things. Is this a sourceforge "mod"?!

    I've read about such unwanted modifications of installers already. If this happened here, we probably need to look for another hosting :(

    As he also couldn't find a bold link for the MP2 download I think he clicked on advertisement which sometimes looks like a download link.
