I slept on it, and came to the conclusion that the screw-up occurred at my end, and may very well have been caused by my hand, so I apologize to one and all associated with MediaPortal for the remarks I made in my initial post, and I no longer think that media portal was in any way responsible for the temporary loss of my files. As an act of contrition I'll load up the latest version of MP and have a bash.  If I'm impressed enough I may even write it up on my web log (hazen.co.nz).
