Media Portal sluggish and freezing up (1 Viewer)

Hi guys,

A couple of days ago I started having problems with Media Portal acting very sluggishly, ultimately resulting in it freezing.

The problem doesn't seem specific to any particular area of Media Portal - it can happen while using menus within TV, in Moving Pictures, in TV Series etc.

Basically, I'll choose a certain menu - say TV Series, and it will take ages getting into TV Series, but will then freeze and say there's no tv series to show.

In TV mode, as an example, I'll go into Recorded TV Shows and i'll get Media Portal's spinning wheel and things will just freeze- have to CTRL-ALT-DELETE to get out.

Same thing happened this morning when I was in Plugins.

It started happening two days ago - I was using Media Portal 1.10, and have been for months without a single issue. It's been bulletproof. This morning I upgraded to 1.13, hoping a re-install of a new version might somehow sort my problems out, but made no difference.

There haven't been any power outages in the past week, I haven't installed any new software, drivers or hardware recently. Thinking Windows may have installed some type of update without me knowing I also did a system restore to several days before the MP problems started, but this hasn't fixed it.

Please find attached a log of my problem, which I got this morning. In this instance, when Media Portal started up it went to the last area I was in - Plugins - as I had to CTRL-ALT-DEL last time. IT just froze at that point again.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Thanks for the report and log files. I'm sorry to say that I don't see the problem.

    MP starts:

So, it looks like MP loses focus... then regains it... then loses it again... and that's it. Not much suspicious here.

    Recommendations:
    1. It would help if you could provide new log files and this time specify exactly what time you think MP froze.
    2. I suggest you check your security software (MS Security Essentials?) and make sure it isn't causing this problem. Over-zealous security software is great at doing random things like this.

The only other things I can see in your log files that might be concerning to me are:
    1. TV Server's failure to start this morning:
"27/02/2016 7:08:15 AM";"Service Control Manager";"(0)";"Error";"The TVService service was unable to log on as .\Strattos with the currently configured password due to the following error: %%1326 To ensure that the service is configured properly, use the Services snap-in in Microsoft Management Console (MMC).";"3221232510"
"27/02/2016 7:08:15 AM";"Service Control Manager";"(0)";"Error";"The TVService service failed to start due to the following error: %%1069";"3221232472"

    2. An unexpected shutdown overnight:
    "27/02/2016 6:52:20 AM";"EventLog";"(0)";"Error";"The previous system shutdown at 9:31:56 PM on ‎26/‎02/‎2016 was unexpected.";"2147489656"

I thought you said there hadn't been any power losses?

Thanks for the quick response and for taking the time to look through my logs.

I'll have another go this morning in terms of getting fresh logs.

The TV server failure this morning was my fault. I save my recorded tv on a networked drive, and after upgrading MP to 1.13 forgot to update the logon details on the TV Service within Windows.

The unexpected shut down was me hard restarting my PC after my system froze.

Okay. I'll await the new log files.

Do you think it's possible that the cause of the system freeze is the same as the cause of the problems with MediaPortal?
