I am having quite a lot of trouble getting Media Portal working on my computer. The problem is not Media Portal itself (everything seems to be working fine!) But just the TV-function in it. Whatever I do (change codec, change channel from composite to S-VHS) Media Portal keeps giving me a scrambled screen like in the attachment of this e-mail. I have to use composite/svhs since I have a dutch 'KPN digitenne' decoder for TV which works in MCE 2005 perfectly, but not in MP.

Strange thing is that regular video's (streaming or Xvid/Divx) work well, as is the audio of the TV. I have tried to change the codec from MPV decoder to the latest Nvidia one, but the problem is still there! I even tried changing the Digitenne decoder with the A/V-output of my Canon EOS 350D, but the result stays the same. Of course is my Windows up to date and I haven't installed any plugins of any kind.

Can please someone give me some advice on getting things working? Thanks in advance, because this is driving me crazy!

Are you able to view television in the included Hauppauge software? Also, are you able to scan for channels in the initial MP setup wizard?

I am able to view TV in any other application (tested with Hauppauge software, Windows Movie Maker and Windows Media Center). I can't scan for channels in the initial setup since I use the composite input of my TV-card. I tested the setup with the composite input and the S-VHS input on all the channels (CVBS#1, CVBS#2 and the other non-tuner channels).

That's why it is so frustrating... It looks like my video gets scrambled in some sort of way like a pay-per-view channel. But this isn't the case since I also tried my 350D and other programs do work. Please help me with solving this problem.

It seems counter-productive to use composite as the input to me. You can only get one channel in MP, the svhs/composite input, and would have to change channels with whatever your input is coming from (receiver, set top box, etc.) You won't be able to use a tv guide properly this way as MP won't be able to control what channel you are on. I strongly suggest switching to a coax input for your television and trying that out.

Have you changed your channels to say external? Have you also changed the input’s on your TV-card setup to the same composite value as configured on your channels-setup?

No, I haven't changed the channels to external. I assumed that setting the channel (the only channel to receive) to composite would be enough... How can I set the channel to stay external?

If you don’t set it to External, MP thinks you are using the analogue tuner input for your channels and wont even look at the composite. You also need to set it to external if you want to use remote-blasters to change the channels on your external decoder/settop-box automatically.

1) Run 'Setup MediaPortal'
2) Go to 'Television / TV Channels'
3) Import your channels
4) Double-Click the channel to edit it.
5) Go to 'External' tab
6) Change 'Type' to "Received by external settop box"
7) Select the correct Input Composite on 'Input Via'
8) Select the "channel number" that the channel will be on your external box. (This is used when you use remote-blasters)
9) Click 'OK'
Do this for every channel....
10) Assign the channels to the TV-Card by using the 'TV Cards' tab

The only other thing to do now is make sure that your Capture Card is looking at the same composite that you configured the channel on.
