Media Portal VS Boxee (2 Viewers)

Im new into the media center world and i want to get the best platform of 2010... yes we are in 2010... internet have a lot of possibility and we should be able to exploit all of these into one simple platform... but after some research... i found that no one of all the available platform have all the function all-in-one... but now i found the 2 best for me... Media portal and Boxee...

Media portal is skinnable, got some exclusive pluggin... but not enough... too many most wanted plugins is missing... if you check the Boxee library... they have a lot of WORKING plugins. Also the way to install it or browse it is so much simple... directly into the media center portal... you dont have to download it and install it manually like media portal. So this is a big + for Boxee. I dont know what is the upgrade that the media portal will do with the version 2 but they should think about this feature... Most of the time the plugins dont work with the latest version of the MP and its not written into the download section... so sometime the installation make your MP crash an unusable... With boxee your sure that the plugins will work and you dont have to play and copy file into you pc to install it... But boxee dont offer the possibility to add some skin... and a few plugins is not already available for boxee as it is for MP. So i will have to run 2 different Media Center on my pc but i hope that soon one of these 2 media center will have the best of both world!

Well, if MediaPortal had that funding Boxee - Press of 10M $, it would be far beyond any other MediaCenter app. So pls don't compare paid developers projects with this opensource project where people work in their sparetime off work. MediaPortal doesn't have corporation partners and is no company itself!

but what i want to say is that MP could be very better if you include in the version 2 an plugins auto installer and browser like boxee have...

There is an MPEI installer + GUI plugin that can basically do so with MePo 1.1!

Hi totallyfreak, MP DOES have this installer: MPEI. And with the plugin "Extensions" you have exactly what you are looking for: Browsing extensions (Plugins) from within MP GUI and install them from there as well.

yep i know but its not into the media center its a program to run separatly... and you dont have a lot of choice... only 10-15 plugins/skin on the 200+ available on the website
