Will it be possible to have both versions installed in parallel?
The current development version of MP2 can be tested on a PC which has MediaPortal 1 installed.
But this is a quite basic version atm.

We can not estimate if this will still work when all features are in place. Especially the TV-Engine.

I installed my first MP nearly a year and a half ago..... MP in its current 1.0.2 state is a monument to the efforts of the design, programming and testing team (all you unofficial participants included).

I could never have realized (then) that MP would become such a pleasure to use. We've all come a long way. :D:D:D

I'm looking forward to the final release of 1.1 and the upcoming MP2. Although, I don't think I will see much of MP2 until it matures a bit, as MP1 fits my current needs perfectly (except for a few minor skin engine related issues that still only slightly annoy me), but who knows what I will discover that I need tomorrow. :D

    Best regards,

    Chuck

Would say yes, if you are talking about MP1, as these worked fine with the concept version of MP2 from way back, as it's a seperate installation.

If you are talking about running MP1.0.2 and 1.1.0alpha, not on a system you rely on, maybe setup a new partition, so you can have a dual boot setup, just for test purposes, that's what a lot of us do :)

I just popped over to the site to have a look at how things are going, when I saw this news on the first page.
WOW you guys are motoring on now.
Since I started using Media Portal I have learned a lot about various programs, code and codecs etc.
Media Portal has helped me to gain a better experience from my home cinema and music system to the extent that people are in TOTAL awe when they come round and see what it can do, lol.

I would never be without it now and i also send out a huge :D

Cant wait for the future of Media Portal to develop further and LONG LIVE MP (I raise my glass to you)

    Regards

    Kev

Thanks love mediaportal, just made a donation today to say thanks. I'm still sticking with MP1.0 Final for now as 1080i is a bit dodgey with 1.0.2, might be that my hd3200 is no longer fast enough.

Please keep up the great work, fantastic piece of software and great forum support.

where can we see the difference between 1 and 2?
In MediaPortal 1, fixing bugs and add new features is like playing mikado.
You touch one area and something totally unrelated breaks.

There are also so many (undocumented) workarounds in the code, that working with it is not easy.
MP1's architecture has reached its limites quite some time ago.

what are the goals, targets, vision for version 2?
MP2 has a modular design. "Everything is a plugin" (codewise).
This makes MP2 much more flexible for developers and much more stable.
It will also have a completelly new skin engine which does not suffer of all the downsides of MP1's skin engine.

The list is quite long (Picture in Picture, etc.).
As soon as we have reached the next "milestone" we will have more informations and maybe even a basic testversion.

Great news about the progress but I'm a bit disappointed to see that we won't be able to upgrade from 1.0.2 as all the tweaking to get a reliably working system takes an age.
