I'd say that is exactly what has happened.

Could we have found the problem?
For that issue last night... quite possibly.
For the issue corresponding with the logs in the first post... I think it is something different.

Spot on-the tuners were set to C: drive. Though it is strange as they were originally set to D: - there are months of recordings in D:
USB tuners are sometimes detected as new tuners. It is a Windows/driver thing. If you check your tuner list in the "TV Servers" section you may see some "Unknown" tuners which may have the correct settings.

When I opened tv server config it didn't prompt to restart the server..
Right, okay. So working theory is the MP crash was caused by TsReader running out of data and/or the HDD running out of space.

Now I have fixed up my mistakes in the config, I'll run it and see if it's now fixed.

    Thanks for your help
    np :)

Well it crashed in normal running mode watching DVB-T this evening, presently running in debug to collect some more logs when it crashes again.

Right, okay. So working theory is the MP crash was caused by TsReader running out of data and/or the HDD running out of space.

Shall I still hold off replacing TsReader and wait for the logs?

    Hello again Adrian

Hmmmm, so we're still seeing this:
31-05-2013 06:49:33.816 MultiFileWriter: failed to create file D:\timeshifting\live6-0.ts.tsbuffer1.ts
Strange, because you said there is plenty of space on the D drive, yes?

On the MP side, we see the same crash source:
    "31/05/2013 6:55:29 AM";"Windows Error Reporting";"(0)";"Information";"Fault bucket 3468339246, type 1 Event Name: APPCRASH Response: Not available Cab Id: 0 Problem signature: P1: MediaPortal.exe P2: 1.3.0.0 P3: 512d0eeb P4: KERNELBASE.dll P5: 6.1.7601.18015 P6: 50b83c8a P7: e06d7363 P8: 0000c41f P9: P10: Attached files: C:\Users\adrian\AppData\Local\Temp\WERCBB5.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml These files may be available here: C:\Users\adrian\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportArchive\AppCrash_MediaPortal.exe_d9f26c97f94291efed987930db70963d277e9_0f7646e1 Analysis symbol: Rechecking for solution: 0 Report Id: c4aec412-c949-11e2-b06e-001167000f7a Report Status: 0";"1001"

To be honest I'm not sure what to suggest from here.

The timestamp on both those error messages is the same time almost as when debug mode created the log zip (MediaPortalLogs_31_05_13__06_55), I am guessing they aren't related to the crash earlier in the morning?
Is there anything earlier in the logs that might point to a cause? If I knew where to look and what for I would..

    Cheers

I feel like I'm missing info here...
What makes you think the crash didn't occur at that time?
How do you know the crash was earlier in the morning?

I can see continuous entries in the MP log from PS++ through the night every 15 seconds:
2013-05-31 01:10:33.346927 [Debug][(7)]: PS: User interface is not idle: Media is playing - reset time of last user activity and system idle timer
2013-05-31 01:10:33.347927 [Debug][(7)]: PS: User interface not idle: StandbyPrevented

    The last entries:
2013-05-31 06:55:16.503936 [Debug][PS StandbyWakeup(14)]: PS: StandbyWakeupThread triggered by check interval
2013-05-31 06:55:16.515937 [Debug][PS StandbyWakeup(14)]: PS: Signal time of last user activity (6:55:14 AM) to the local TvServer
    2013-05-31 06:55:16.534938 [Debug][PS StandbyWakeup(14)]: PS: LoadSettings()

The last entry in the TsReader log is:
    31-05-2013 02:55:30.640 [460]Demux : Audio to render 0.577 Sec
...but that does not mean that TsReader crashed at that time.

I'm not sure it crashed earlier but the time when I checked to see if it had crashed was 6.55 and that's when the log zip was generated.

Would that happen because debug closed the TvServer service when the log zip was generated?

Okay. My second post there was to say that it is possible there were two crashes that morning:
    1. 2:55
    2. 6:55

Is that normal behaviour for PS++?
Yes, absolutely. Was just trying to say that it looked like MP (or at least PS) was continuing to run.

Would that happen because debug closed the TvServer service when the log zip was generated?
    I don't understand this comment.
Gathering the logs does not stop the TV service.
Again, my point in including these entries was to show that it looked like MP was still running when you collected logs.

So again I come back to the question: how do you know MP has crashed? What are you seeing?
Please understand, I'm not trying to be facetious - I'm trying to better understand the symptoms.

Thinking maybe a reinstall might be a fix?
    You could try.
My personal opinion is that reinstall is an extreme measure. Having said that, at this point I don't understand the problem... which is to say that I don't understand what is triggering the problem. It is like your system is not stable. Like something in the playback chain - ie. TsReader, codecs or renderer - gets upset decoding and displaying the content of the DVB-T streams. If that is the case, reinstalling would make no difference.

I agree it is possible but if the program had crashed at 2:55 how did it restart and crash again later?

MP disappears showing the desktop and a windows error message saying Mediaportal has stopped working.

No worries I'm happy that someone is trying to help me fix this :)

If any one of those things were causing this surely the logs would point that out?
