I have purchased a Hauppauge Colossus, my first tuner/capture card. I have fiddled around with the application it comes with WinTV but dislike it. After looking around some on Google I see post about MediaPortal 1.2.0 beta or sagetv <--- in which I just payed $150 for the card so im not spending another $80 for an app.

I have downloaded 1.2.0 version of MediaPortal but find it very intimidating and confusing to setup. Im looking to set this up with a Comcast set top box RNG110, in which I had WinTV working fine just didn't like it and found it's features lacking.

I was wondering if anyone had a setup guide for someone who doesnt know alot about the hole media center/tv on PC deal for setting up MediaPortal which this card for purpose of watching TV.

Any help would be great thanks.

    Welcome shamus252 :)

Please check out the first post in the Colossus support thread for some rough instructions. WileECoyote (who owns 2 Colossuses... Colossae??? :D :p) is in the process of putting together a definitive guide, but I don't think it is quite done yet. Feel free to PM him or post any questions you have in that thread. Don't be intimidated by the technical discussions - support is still very new so we're still ironing out a few things...

PS: the wiki is always good for general information too.

    Hi,

I'm in the exact same position as the Original Poster; I just purchased & installed the Hauppauge Colossus (my first TV Tuner Card) in my newly built Sandy Bridge HTPC. I have Comcast Cable and after installing the Drivers CD including WinTV 7, I'm able to get my Cable on my PC and I'm able to record shows & all using WinTV.

I'm using MediaPortal as my frontend and I'd like to use it for my TV Show Recordings and all.

As mentioned by mm1352000, I did visit the given link (and actually went through the 32 pages in that thread); I installed the couple of plugins mentioned in the first post of that thread, however, there aren't really any "instructions" as such on how to use/configure the colossus in MediaPortal in that thread. There's a lot of discussion about the plugins but not so much instructions, especially for n00bs like us.

I have tried to follow the TV Server Configuration Wiki; but I'm still not to the point where I can actually get my Cable TV in MediaPortal. So I'm still looking for help & instructions. Anyone?

    Thanks!!

    Hi luci5r

Since you've read the thread then you'd know that support is still very new. Things basically work, but configuration will not be straightforward. Expecting a guide that will give you a walkthrough at this early stage is unrealistic - it is being worked on but it isn't ready yet. If you have specific questions then please ask them on that thread. The people who have the devices hang out there so it is the best place to get questions answered. I myself don't actually have an HDPVR or a Colossus so I can only give general answers and point you to the people that do have answers. Any tips that I can give are already written in this post. I really can't help you more than that unless you have specific questions...

    Hi mm,

Thanks - I'll head over to that post and see if I can get some help with my setup. I definitely understand that support is very new & thus low. Hopefully I should be able to get it setup as I see other people have been able to.

    Thanks again.

    Hi shamus252

Do you mind if I respectfully ask why? I mean I know getting a full cable lineup working is not for the first time user yet, however getting the basics going should be really easy. Beyond the EPG question which I've just answered (sorry I haven't done so earlier - I thought it was more "involved"), you don't seem to have asked any specific questions. Is the information that I've given to luci5r not helpful to you?
