I've downloaded and installed cccp codec, now, if i play an mkv in mediaportal, I can see it only in black and white.
generaly speaking we do not recommend the use of any codec pack.

i have seen an thread here somewhere which also was about a problem with that specific codec pack.

my suggestion is that you uninstall it and then install the plain Haali splitter to get mkv supported.

mkv's are playing nicely here with coreavc 1.6

    Same here.

Some mkv files just refuse to play in MP. I have had he best success with ffdshow although I have no idea what I am doing. For example: on my HTPC I can choose a ffdshow mpeg4 decoder in MP configuration. On my regular PC, I only have ffdshow decoder and ffdshow raw. I have tried different ffdshow versions, but I can't seem to get the mpeg4 version to appear in my normal pc no matter what I try. I have also not been able to get CoreAVC to work with mkv files in MP on any of my machines.

I can get about half of my .mkvs to play in MP. For the life of me, I cant figure out the difference between what makes one work and what makes one not. Those that work are nearly the same size, using the same codecs and bitrates as those that dont.

Using CoreAVC or ffdshow provide the same results. Some just play beautifully in MP, some just fail to launch, yet I can see the haali icon appear for a second or so in my tray, yet I'm completely unable to get any feedback as to why it doesnt work.

All these files play perfectly in WMP, MPC and MC. They've all worked perfectly in MP before 0.23 final. In fact, some of them still ask me if I'd like to resume where I last left off playing them in RC3.

I just went back to RC3, and those files play perfectly again, so its definitely got to be a bug in the final release.

I am using the Final + SVN and can play any MKV without problems.
Had some problems with ts files first.
Sometimes when i had problems playin mkv files it was sound related.
E.g. did not set AC3Filter to DTS Auto.

I am using CoreAVC 1.6 (for H264), ffdshow (all but MPG2 and H264), PureVideo (MPG2) and AC3 Filter only. Also Haali Media Splitter with all container formats checked. Nothing else is installed.

As im using a ATI 2600 Pro i installed the latest catalyst driver.

I am also having issues with playing all my mkv files. Some will just not launch. They play fine in any other media player.

the only "other mediaplayer" we are interested in is WindowsMediaPlayer.
    does it work there?

and do the files which play and those which do not play use different video/audio codecs?
    i guess they do.

i also want to see a log of that failing playback.
    1. start mediaportal debug (windows start menu)
    2. try to play the file which doesnt work
    3. close mediaportal
    4. attach exported log.zip

Thanks for helping :) Yes, the mkv's play fine in WMP. They also play fine in MPC and ZP Beta 6, which both use EVR. I've attached my logs.

Just took a look at the MP log myself, is it trying to use VMR9? I have it set to EVR and it does use that with files that work. I set the rendrer to VMR, but it still failed tp play.

I just followed the guide posted here, and I can confirm it now works with the latest VSFilter and autoload in Halli's settings. Should have tried that first, apologies.
