MediaPortal crashes at the splashscreen (1 Viewer)

Hey

My first post in the forums and just wanted to first say congratulations to the people behind mediaportal because its a fantastic program!

Been playing around with it for a few days now and got it setup nicely with films and the myTV series plugin

But today when I tried to start it up it gets to the splashscreen saying

"loading windows plugins...."

and then stops. Windows displays a "MedialPortal has stopped working" and "MediaPortal crashed unexpectedly" I have to close the program down.

I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit, and the version is whatever one is avaliable for download at the moment.

Its saved a .zip from the testtool program but I'm not sure how to attatch it for it to be of use?

Theres more than likely a problem with one of the plugins, if you cannot access MP config to disable any recently activated plugins, chances are the mediaportal.xml may be corrupt.

This can be stored in one of two places, c:\program data\team-mediaportal\mediaportal (need to show hidden folders) or C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Appdata\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal

Rename to mediaportalOLD.xml and reconfigure, only enabling one plugin at a time until the faulty one stops MP loading.

Logs or anything ie pictures can be uploaded via the advanced + feature.

I can open the MP config and access all the menu's (have just edited a few films on the database), but as soon as I click the 'plugins' menu at the bottom the program crashes and windows says "medialportal configuration has stopped working" before closing the program. I guess this confirms that my problems are something to do with the plugins? I've only added one though - the TV series one and that was working ok yesterday

I found the file and renamed it, theres a 'mediaportal.xml.bak' too, do I need to do anything to that?

After renaming it what do you mean "reconfigure"? I tried loading the config up again but as soon as I select plugins it crashes again.

Hopefully if i've done it right i should have attached the log this time too.

Gone through the logs supplied.

2 things show up, 1 says you do not have enough permissions, are you running on administrator or user account ?
2nd relates to TV and the TVServer and its client plugin not being able to access each other.

Not sure whether this could be firewall related or not, or even if you have a tv setup.

for looking through the logs, I didnt have any idea where to start with them.

I've only got one account on the computer, which is the admin account.

I just got MP (and being able to select plugins in MP) working by right clicking and selecting to 'run as admin'. I dissabled the TV-Series plugin and then the MP started fine without having to right click and run as admin.

So I thought all was fixed, tried to go back back into the MP config but it wont allow me to go to the plugins tab unless I run as admin. So I started the MP config under run as admin and enabled the TV-series plugin.

The MP now starts without having to select 'run as admin' but it doesnt load the tv-series plugin, it only loads the tv-series plugin if i right click and 'run as admin'.

Hope that all made sense?

Is there some way of not having to right click and run as admin all the time? because if I set MP to startup with the computer then it doesnt run as admin and so doesnt start Tv-series plugin.

Edit: I dont have a TV setup so I guess the second related problem isn't whats stopping my from running MP properly.

You may of just hit why i run my system on a true admin account Make your Vista's admin account acts like in XP - Neowin Forums

Have tried quite a few times to setup MP on a normal Admin\User account without success, there has always been something that bugged me.

With the above admin setup can still leave UAC on, but without the constant prompts, just like XP.

I've had problems with the not real administrator problem before - not being 'allowed' to delete folders that wernt being used or needed for one! Thanks very much for the link - is handy!

Just one question though, I've already got my "Ben-PC" user account setup (as the only and default account). When I now create this true administrator account, will I lose or change anything from the Ben-PC?

Hi,

I'm at a loss. 2 Days of trying to find a solution for the problem has lead me nowhere. Even downloaded the Sources and tried to create a debugging version but that also has come to a halt (can't create the installer properly). The caption of this thread exactly say's what happening on my Media PC. Ok, I know. It's not state of the art but it should be powerfull enough to start MediaPortal (I guess). I also have a dual-core PC where I do my development. There MediaPortal works fine (can even run the downloaded sources in VS2005, no prob).

Here's what I've done so far:
- Installed with one-click (got an error because the Windows Firewall wasn't running). After starting the Firewall the Installation went ok.
- Installed without the TV and HD options.
- Removed the plug-ins one by one.
- Dug through the Log files (no errors there for as far as I can judge).
- Installed the latest version of Direct X.
- Reinstalled .Net 2.0 redist package.
- And a lot more... which I don't remember at the moment

It simply doesn't want to start on my Media PC. It displays the 'splash' screen and the last text there is 'Loading configuration module'. Then the crash happens. I'll upload the log too.
