Hi guys,

This issue just came up last night and I'm not sure how to resolve it. I was watching one of my shows and MP crashed. Thought it was unusual because that's never happened before, but I thought I would just go with a reboot.

Rebooted the computer, tried to open MediaPortal... Didn't work. The Windows Error continually comes up saying MP Stopped working, would you like to send this information to Microsoft?

Rebooted a couple more time, nothing worked.

Installed the latest version of MP, same issue.

Attempted to run MP Watchdog to see what's going on but when I open Watchdog I can an error saying MediaPortal stopped working or can't be opened. And then Watchdog eventually prompts me to quit because it can't open the program.

Really dumbfounded with this one. Has anything like this occurred before?

    Is there a fix?
If possible, replace MediaPortal.xml with a backup that you know is not corrupted.
If you don't have a backup then simply delete MediaPortal.xml, and open MediaPortal configuration to reconfigure all your settings.

[edit: To be clear, that's what you have to do when any file gets corrupted.]

By the way, this description makes it sound like your system HDD/SSD ran out of space. If I were you I'd check how much free HDD space you have... to make sure the problem doesn't happen again.

    Okay, thanks for that mate.

According to the wiki the mediaportal.xml file should be in the Config folder of MediaPortal.

    I can't seem to find this folder?[DOUBLEPOST=1430525173][/DOUBLEPOST]

Hey! How did you know? I did run out of space, fixed that issue by deleting some stuff but still not opening :(

I can't seem to find this folder?
That's because Windows hides ProgramData by default.
Copy and paste c:\ProgramData\ into the address bar in Windows Explorer, press enter, and you'll be there. From there you can go into the Team MediaPortal sub-folder etc.

    Hey! How did you know?
It seemed the most likely explanation. ;)

Yeah, deleting stuff doesn't help when files have been corrupted.

MediaPortal won't open until you've run MediaPortal configuration. Have you done that? (ie. does MediaPortal configuration open)
...and does the watchdog tool run now?

In any case, more files may be corrupted. Reboots don't usually help in situations like this.

MediaPortal Config crashes attempting to open as well. And Watchdog still doesn't run

I'm thinking I'm going to be forced to do a clean install? :(
