    MediaPortal Version: 1.12.0

    Description
Hi, whenever I try to play a movie that has a .sub and a .idx subtitle files, MediaPortal hangs. Does not accept any user input. But I can hear the button press sound when trying, but the screen does not update.

The reason I believe this is a bug is that it works in Windows Media Player (WMP). Using Lav splitter, audio and video decoder in both MediaPortal and WMP. But in WMP I use DirectVobSub for subtitles, and I suppose MediaPortal uses its internal subtitle functionality.

The .sub file is binary, I don't know much about the format. Other .sub files I have seen have been plain text. The file is 20 mb in size.

    This is the exeption:

    [2015-11-04 18:58:57,847] [Error ] [MPMain ] [ERROR] - ...
at MediaPortal.Player.Subtitles.MpcEngine.MpcSubtitles.LoadSubtitles(IntPtr d3DDev, Size size, String filename, IGraphBuilder graphBuilder, String paths, Int32 lcidCI)
    at MediaPortal.Player.Subtitles.MpcEngine.LoadSubtitles(IGraphBuilder graphBuilder, String filename)
    ...
I suppose it would be easier if I supplied the video, but it is 9 gb. If I move the .sub file to another directory, the video plays fine.

    Steps to Reproduce:
Start MediaPortal, play video file with .sub file in same directory. Mediaportal Hangs.

    Hi,
Last time i have used .sub it was ok :)
You could try to start to upload your video on our FTP and stop the transfert after few minutes, it should be enough to trigger your issue.

    From Wiki :

Recent MPC-HC version crash too, so seems to be a bug to resolve on MPC-HC/MPC-HC Engine side.
Directvobsub doesn't crash, i will try on MP :)

Ah, I did not realize that MediaPortal used Media Player Classics subtitle engine. Good to know, could have tested it with MPC myself. If it is a faulty subtitle file, then I understand if it can't handle it. But it would be nice if it did not die... But that seems to be up to MPC developers. I also did not know you could change the subtitle engine. New around here, but learning. Just tried to play with subtitle engine set to DirectVobSub, seems to work without issues.

Yep DirectVobSub works correctly under MP too, so if we can have MPC Devs to fix it then we maybe able to port it to MP :)

I succeed to start the subtitle with MPC-HC engine when debugging and avoid to read one line of code lol, now need to know why :p

Wow! That is really fast! So now MP has a better MPC subtitle library than MPC itself. Working fine here, the video that crashed before now works fine, with subtitles. Thank you!
