For some reason Media Portal 1.3.0 hibernates the computer when I power it on. This started yesterday for no apparent reason. The only way to regain control is by very quickly going to TV or Music or anything so it's no longer on the home screen, but you have to be very quick.

Rebooting the computer doesn't help, it will happen again the next time. I've checked the PowerScheduler plug-in, but it's correctly set to hibernate after 30 minutes of inactivity. I'm posting the relevant logs.

    Any help will be appreciated.

All the logs show of that the WM_POWERBROADCAST 0x4 occurs and PowerScheduler thinks the hibernate is due to unattended/idle mode.

Can you check your settings - the suspend/idle function ticked and value in TVConfig - also check it's not Windows doing the hibernate, as the PowerControl has been set/changed inadvertently.

Between the two, think there's a good chance you'll find the culprit.

    Code:

    Thanks for looking at it.

I've double checked Windows, but it's set to never suspend, when I installed the OS I created a new power profile that never suspends the computer or screen (since it's plugged to a TV). That profile is the one active. Besides, the computer hibernates right away, no wait time, so most likely because of the TV Server doing it, not a system timer.

I've also looked at the settings in the TV Server, it's set up as follows:

    Shut down after 30 minutes
    Wake up for events
    Shut down mode is hibernate
    No forced shut down
    Pre-wake time 60 seconds
    Pre-no-shut down 300 seconds
    Check interval 60 seconds
    No reinitialize
Prevent shut down when grabbing EPG
Wake up for EPG at 10h00
    No network monitor
    No shares monitoring

I see this in the logs when I turn on the computer and it shuts down right away:

    Code:
    2013-04-04 14:29:50.921336 [PowerEventThread(9)]: OnPowerEvent: PowerStatus: ResumeSuspend
2013-04-04 14:29:53.140618 [WinController exit thread(21)]: WindowsController: ExitWindows performed, result: True
2013-04-04 14:29:53.147624 [PowerScheduler poll thread(15)]: PowerScheduler: System is unattended and idle - initiate suspend/hibernate
    2013-04-04 14:29:53.155620 [PowerEventThread(9)]: OnPowerEventHandler: PowerStatus: ResumeSuspend
2013-04-04 14:29:53.162626 [PowerScheduler poll thread(15)]: PowerScheduler: Manual system suspend requested by
    2013-04-04 14:29:53.170622 [PowerEventThread(9)]: TvController.OnResume()

In the first line you see the computer just was powered on. Three seconds later the PowerScheduler plug-in orders it to suspend without waiting for the shut down timer. It seems to me that the PowerScheduler plugin under some circumstances ignores the shut down timer, or does not reset it after waking up the computer.

I have no choice but to disable PowerScheduler until I can fix this.

Fully understand, not much pint in powering the beasty up if it's going to down itself every few mins.

    It looks like PowerScheduler thinks

    a) system is idle &
    b) it's hit the 30 mins idle time

Clearly something is corrupted or there would be a host of unhappy posting  , so a switch back to 1.2.3 may well solve problem simply because it's a reinstall.

If your not already using it, would suggest after you disable the built in plugin install

it's the most widely recommend 'next step', is very current (last update about 3 weeks ago) and is well rated.

    Good luck - JCMP

Edit - I mean POINT, was thinking only thinking PINT:whistle:

Well it's clear that the idle timer doesn't get reset after wake up here. I modified the check interval to 30 seconds, but no effect. It was a shot in the dark, I have no idea what this does or even why this setting exists.

I don't think the installation is corrupted or the configuration, I set up this computer from scratch a few short months ago, when I upgraded it to Windows 8 (after many many years running Vista with no issues.)

I'll look about this other plug-in. What I need is simple: hibernate the computer when it's been unused on the Home Screen for 30 minutes and wake it up for recordings and EPG.

I've been using this PowerScheduler++ plug-in and it's been working fine for now. But so did the original one for some time.

    Fingers crossed! Thanks!
