In the present versions, mediaportal runs in the tray only when minimized.

is it possible to run it *ALWAYS* in the tray, even when i have it fullscreen?

I ask because i always run mediaportal full-screen on a secondary display. since i'm never going to close mediaportal, it's just wasting space there on my taskbar.

Hi citizenkeys, if I understand you correctly, you are referring to the icon in the system tray, right?
I'm confused: do you want the icon to be there
is it possible to run it *ALWAYS* in the tray
    or not?
since i'm never going to close mediaportal, it's just wasting space there on my taskbar

yes. mediaportal should run in tray and not taskbar.

because i run mediaportal fullscreen on a secondary display, it has no reason to be on my taskbar.

    same situation with milkdrop:
i run milkdrop as my visuals in mediaportal.
ideally, milkdrop shouldn't be on the taskbar at all or even in the tray since there's nothing to do with it when its running.
at minimum, milkdrop should not be on the taskbar until i play some music.
right now, milkdrop takes up a whole space on the taskbar next to mediaportal as soon as i start mediaportal.

Uhmmm, isn't it so that every program that you run full screen gets a button in the task bar and with some of them you have an option to minimize them to the tray instead of having a button on the task bar.

Are you running MP on a desktop pc, I mean a pc that you are using for other things as well as MP at the same time?
If yes, you could use multimon (Oscar's Multi-Monitor taskBar).
This is a free multimonitor tool that adds a taskbar to additional monitors, so the MP button will appear on the 2nd monitor.

    i'll describe my mediaportal setup:
    * mediaportal runs on a dedicated laptop that sits on the coffee table
    * the laptop's built-in display is used for web browsing, typing documents, etc.
    * the laptop's monitor out acts as a secondary display
    * the laptop monitor-out (secondary display) goes to a projector that projects onto a wall
    * mediaportal runs full-screen on the secondary display (projector)
    * mediaportal is NEVER minimized since it runs full-screen on the secondary display (projector).

i think that mediaportal has to be coded specifically to have an option to always run in the tray. for a good example, winamp has exactly such an option. even when winamp has the focus, its always in the tray to save taskbar space.

attached is a picture of winamp's "show winamp in:" configuration
