Following my topic on how to install Mediaportal on Windows 2008 R2 ...

here is the next step. :D

With the use of SP1 for Windows 2008 and a certified Remote FX GPU , i have managed to get Mediaportal up and running
on a Virtual machine (hosted on the same windows2008 machine)

In effect, you only need a very cheapish client with an RDP client (Wyse thinclient also works).
The only thing you really need is at least a 10mbps connection to your VM.

This will make the use of TVSERVER on win2008 very effective, also since there is a fix included in the new Betaversion of MP which reduces disk activity for at least 95% when streaming !
So you would be able to run multiple clients at once without hassle.

Maximum resolution Maximum number of monitors in virtual machine setting
    1 monitor 1920 x 1200 220 MB
    2 monitors 1920 x 1200 308 MB

The memory used is on the SERVER videocard , so when running 4 clients you need at least a GPU with 1 GB memory

Just connect a thinclient or cheapish client to your network and watch TV...

    What do you need:
A certified Remote FX cpu (SSE2 capable)
A certified Remote FX gpu (directx 9.0 and 10 capable) and an available WDMM driver
Use install topic to install windows 2008 r2 with mediaportal in my signature.

Now the question: would anyone care for a step by step instruction guide on how its done, or will i just waste my time creating detailed instructions instead of watching MP in the bathtub on a RDP session :D

I'm still trying to think of a scenario where this would actually be useful :/

A Revo client with Atom + ION2 can be had for €199, how much thinner does it get than that? Then your TV-server can also be a thin machine ;)

Just started ordering components for my new RemoteFX server, will take whatever details you want to post. Now if only some of those RDP 7.1 zero clients would actually hit the market...

    Supermicro 1026GT-TF, 2x E5620 Xeon's, 6x 4GB reg ECC 1333 DDR3.

Undecided on the video cards (GTX-5XX?). Working on storage... Immediate solution is either old 4x 80gb laptop HDDs and/or ISCSI boot to my 48TB array, might play with MPIO, but ports are limited. Looking at possibly adding a ~2TB 10k FC array for the VDI's, few cheep ones on ebay atm.

Thanks for the heads up on the Wyse clients FW. Holding off on the clients till I know if I have a usable HyperV rig or a high end workstation.
