If you untick (i.e. disable) all the VMR 9 settings in Mediaportal do you still have the freezing problem? Just a hunch... and probably not a very good one.

I'm having the same problems, AMD 690G, latest svn, catalyst 7.9 drivers. Freeze screen in less than 5 minutes, please address this in next stable version
